JOB OPPORTUNITY

Driver – CONNECT project, Nepal

Location: Mahendranagar, Kanchanpur, Nepal – with frequent travel to projects communities & sites

Benefits: 18 days annual leave, 12 days sick leave, 14 days festival holidays and medical insurance

Start: 1st April 2026

Contract: Full-time, 37.5 hours/week, initial fixed term of 24 months with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding

Responsible to: Assigned staff from Operation Department

Responsibilities

Driving and passenger safety:

  • Allow only authorized personnel to drive RW vehicle.
  • Ensure that only authorized people and goods are transported, i.e.: RW personnel and goods, people working for or in collaboration with RW with the prior authorization of the line manager.
  • Ensure that any travel in RW vehicles and any transportation of RW persons and/or goods has been approved by the line manager.
  • Before setting off, inform all passengers that their seatbelts must be fastened, whether in the front or the rear of the vehicle.
  • Must drive carefully ensuring the safety of passengers, comply with the transport and traffic rules and the applicable speed limits; must adjust the speed of the vehicle when approaching populated areas, considering the condition of the road, the load on the vehicle, the technical condition of the vehicle and the weather conditions.
  • Must not, under any circumstances, smoke in or near RW vehicles and must ensure that all passengers observe this rule.
  • Must be on time and aware of road safety and security situation.

Up keeping of the vehicle

  • Ensure that the assigned vehicle contains the Logbook, complete First Aid kit, defined tools (jack, straps, ropes, etc) & other essential tools. If any of the defined equipment is missing or faulty, immediately inform the line manager.
  • Protect the vehicle against risks/accidents/theft, ensuring that the vehicle is parked safely (at night, during holidays, etc.).
  • Ensure that the vehicle is always clean (inside and out) and in perfect condition, in accordance with the instructions applicable.
  • Each morning, perform daily checks of the vehicle.
  • Check the schedule for periodic service and ensure that the vehicle is serviced on time.
  • Add fuel to ensure the planned travel is not interrupted due to lack of fuel.

Administration and Communication

  • Correctly complete and update the Logbook (mileage, petrol receipts, services, repairs, accidents, other incidents, etc.).
  • Must be in possession of a valid driving license and check that the registration documents and other papers of the vehicle are up to date; if they are not, inform the line manager in time to renew the documents before they expire.
  • Must have knowledge of prevailing rules to follow in case of an accident.
  • Report all movements.
  • The driver must not, under any circumstances, use the mobile phone while driving.
  • Must always remain close to the vehicle and contactable (mobile telephone); if he/she needs to leave the vehicle, ensure that the vehicle is parked safely and securely.
  • Provide support to both programming and operations teams including but not limited to deliver and pick up documents, deliver and pick up staff / guests, photocopy and scan document, and other duties assigned by line manager.

Reporting

  • In the event of mechanical problems, immediately inform the line manager.
  • In the event of an accident, inform the line manager, program team, as well as the local authorities.

Minimum Requirements.

Essential

  • Able to read, write and speak (basic) Nepali and English. Valid driving license and 4WD/Off-road vehicle driving experience
  • Excellent road knowledge of Karnali & Sudurpaschim Provinces.
  • Technical skills in vehicle maintenance
  • Politeness, maturity and honesty
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a driver for NGOs/INGOs
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in rural and off roads

Desirable

  • First aid course is a plus
  • Having formal training in vehicle maintenance is a plus
  • Candidates from disadvantaged groups and from Sudurpachhim province are encouraged to apply.
