JOB OPPORTUNITY

The Gurkha Welfare Trust Nepal is the field arm of Gurkha Welfare Trust UK, a registered charitable Trust working, particularly for the ex-Gurkha Veterans and their communities across Nepal. It is a charitable institution that was established and registered in the UK in 1969.

We invite applications from suitably qualified and committed individuals for the following positions:

  • Internal/External Vacancy: Individual Aid Assistant, based at this Trust’s Headquarters in Tallo Deep, Pokhara.
  • External Vacancy: Cluster Rehabilitation Therapist, based at our Area Welfare Centres (AWCs) in Kaski (Buddha Chowk) and Dharan (Shivadhara), respectively.

Position: Individual Aid Assistant

Key Responsibilities:

The Individual Aid Assistant (IA Asst) will support the IA Cell by reviewing and processing applications
for Welfare Pensions, Disability Support Grants, Home Care Allowance, Residential Home
placements, and major Hardship Grants, ensuring full compliance with GWT(N) policies. The
role maintains accurate IA databases and digital P-files, prepares payment lists and
vouchers, updates grant ledgers, and coordinates with AWCs for timely information flow and
documentation. The position also assists with major welfare projects, supports efficient utilisation of
the IA budget, provides reports as required, and serves as the first point of contact for IA related
queries.

Essential and Desirable Criteria:

  •  Minimum Qualification of Intermediate (10+2) or above (bachelor’s degree preferrable) with minimum of 3 years’ work experience. Must be job-ability fit.
  •  Must have ability to organise, record and retrieve information effectively and efficiently.
  •  Must be able to communicate effectively in English and Nepali, both orally and in written form.
  • Must have numeracy and data evaluation skills.
  • Must have a good understanding of using Information Systems (IS).
  •  Must be competent in MS Word/Excel and database management.
  •  Must have excellent interpersonal skills to deal with both up and down chain of command.

Position: Cluter Rehabilitation Therapist

Key Responsibilities:

This position holder will provide rehabilitation expertise to the GWT medical and non-medical staff,
and patient carers so that they may better assess and treat the pensioners, train appropriate skills
as necessary and within their competency. Examples might be manual handling and teaching of
transferring patients with limited mobility, fitting or walking aids and appropriate wheelchair choice.
She/he will provide direct rehabilitation and physiotherapeutic treatments and interventions to
pensioners in their homes and in GWT premises.

Essential and Desirable Criteria:

  •  Minimum bachelor’s degree in physical therapy or occupational therapy with at least 3 years
    of work experience in related field.
  •  Current unrestricted registration with Nepal Health Professional Council (NHPC).
  •  Previous experience in community rehabilitation settings is vital.
  •  Working knowledge and application of relevant Country legislation governing medical practice.
  •  Preference to candidates with master’s degree with specialisation in Geriatric or Neurology or musculoskeletal medicine, Rehabilitation Science and Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR).
  •  Demonstrated expertise in rehabilitation service, capacity building of generalist health staff on rehabilitation and identifying patients who need referral for specialised rehabilitation.
  • Experience in clinical service delivery to elderly population or people with disabilities.
  •  Prior Experience working with international companies or NGOs.
  •  Excellent interpersonal skills.

3. REMUNERATIONS

  • Both the Individual Aid Assistant and Cluster Rehabilitation Therapist positions fall in EG3 in our pay structure, with a basic monthly salary of NPR 72,237. Prevailing salary, or whichever is higher, is applicable for internal candidates transferring level.
  • Additional benefits and entitlements will be provided in line with GWT(N) Standing Instructions (SI).
  • The initial appointment will be for a three-year contract, with the potential for extension subject to
    organisational requirements and individual performance.
