JOB TITLE: WASH coordinator

Child Safeguarding Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post holder may require having a regular contact with or access to children or young people because the position holder works in the implementation of the country programme and are visiting programme frequently.
ROLE PURPOSE:

The WASH Coordinator will provide technical and operational leadership in planning, implementing, monitoring, and reporting flood response WASH interventions. The position will ensure quality delivery of emergency water supply, sanitation, and hygiene promotion activities and coordinate with government authorities, humanitarian partners, and the WASH Cluster. The position will provide technical leadership to ensure quality implementation of water supply, sanitation, and hygiene promotion activities and represent the organization in relevant WASH coordination forums and clusters.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Conduct WASH needs assessments in target communities, schools, health facilities, collective centers, CFS, and other project sites.
Identify gaps and priorities related to water supply, sanitation, hygiene practices, and infrastructure.
Collect, analyze, and document assessment findings to support program planning and decision-making.
Develop detail implementation plan and recommendations for appropriate WASH interventions based on assessment results.
Ensure community participation, including women, men, girls, boys, and marginalized groups, during such assessments in coordination with the stakeholders and PDQI department
Provide technical assistance for the repair, rehabilitation, and maintenance of small-scale water supply systems and conduct technical inspections and assessments of water schemes.
Ensure water systems meet quality and safety standards.
Build the capacity of community members and user committees on operation and maintenance of water systems.
Monitor functionality and sustainability of rehabilitated water supply facilities.
Provide technical guidance on the design and construction of gender-friendly, accessible, and inclusive sanitation facilities and integration of disability-friendly features in sanitation facilities.
Ensure installation of appropriate handwashing stations with soap and water near sanitation facilities.
Monitor construction quality and compliance with WASH standards.
Coordinate with contractors, local authorities, and community stakeholders during implementation.
Coordinate, mentor, support on capacity development and project implementation to WASH staffs working for partner organization.
Develop and implement hygiene promotion and behavior change activities.
Conduct awareness and sensitization sessions on safe water handling, sanitation, menstrual hygiene management, handwashing, and disease prevention.
Develop or adapt SBC materials for WASH promotion activities in consultation with the PDQI department
Train community volunteers, teachers, health workers, and local stakeholders on WASH and hygiene practices.
Monitor the effectiveness of hygiene promotion interventions and recommend improvements.
Develop activity plans and monitor implementation progress against project targets.
Maintain accurate records of assessments, trainings, infrastructure activities, and community interventions.
Represent SCI in WASH Cluster meetings, technical working groups, and coordination forums.
Share project updates, challenges, and achievements with relevant stakeholders.
Ensure alignment of project activities with national WASH standards, policies, and cluster guidelines.
Report incidents, risks, and access constraints promptly.
Ensure data and the information from the field are regularly updated to the relevant teams and departments in the Country Office.
Ensure gender equity, social inclusion, child participation and beneficiary accountability are part of all Humanitarian and DRR programmes.
Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATION:
- A minimum of 3 years’ (2 years for GSI ) experience in WASH programming and field level implementation with the Master degree in relevant areas / or 5 years ( 3 years for GSI group) of experience with bachelor degree.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Experience in WASH programming, preferably in emergencies or flood response operations.
- Experience in water system rehabilitation, sanitation infrastructure, and hygiene promotion.
- Knowledge of humanitarian standards including Sphere Standards and WASH Cluster approaches.
- Experience coordinating with local governments, communities, and humanitarian partners.
- Strong reporting, facilitation, and communication skills.
- Ability to travel extensively to flood-affected and remote locations.
- Fluency in English and Nepali, both written and spoken
- Commitment to the aims and principles of SCI in particular, a good understanding of the SCI mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support
- Ability to establish good working relationships and positively contribute to a team
- Ability to work in a stressful and changing environment with limited resources
