Position: Technical Officer- Infrastructure

Location: Lahan

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration till April 2026. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Lahan, Nepal. The position is paid according to WHH paygrade.

Implementation of project activities according to the specified deadlines and organisational, contractual and financial directives. To further develop WHH’s engagement on WASH System Strengthening at the local and provincial level focusing on technical matter with sustainability aspects. Ensure the success and quality of the different programmes/projects in line with Welthungerhilfe, governmental standards and policies, coordinate with Welthungerhilfe staff, partners, and stakeholders.

Your responsibilities

  • Providing technical support in the planning, design, implementation, and monitoring of WASH infrastructure and services at the field level.
  • Ensure all WASH interventions are climate-resilient, environmentally sustainable, nature-based and aligned with national standards and guidelines.
  • Assess and further develop the technical capacity of partners with intensive mentoring, coaching, monitoring and supervision based on capacity development plan
  • Partnerships coordination at the local level which includes joint planning with the partners on various project deliverables.
  • Ensure the quality and standard of the materials used in the construction sites
  • Ensure the health and safety of the construction workers
  • Promoting innovation in WASH technologies and approaches such as water service delivery model, FSTP linking up with business plan and market value chain.
  • Promote the integrated approaches linking WASH with food, nutrition, enterprise development and climate resilience
  • Attend and represent WHH at relevant meetings, networks, thematic working groups etc. and actively contribute upon agreement with Technical Coordinator
  • Decision-making and judgement based on technical and management experience.
    Coordinate project implementation monitoring, and reporting in collaboration with local partners, WHH MEAL Team and Technical Expert WASH for various projects related to WASH
  • Support the WASH Expert to conduct different studies, assessment and undertake WASH governance activities in close coordination with local and provincial stakeholders.
  • Documentation of substantial knowledge of areas of implementation in the form of learning documents or process documentation.
  • Accompanying donors, WHH missions from abroad, government officials, other relevant stakeholders to the field.
  • Ensure the sustainability of the developed structures supported by the project beyond the project timeline
  • Ensure the quality delivery and timely tracking of the budget as per the planning
  • Any other duties assigned by the Technical Expert WASH and work closely with Technical Coordinator.

Your profile

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Nepali citizen having bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
  • At minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in the construction of water supply systems, sanitation projects and hygiene facilities, including monitoring and supervision to ensure the sustainability of these facilities.
  • Additional experience in Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants (FSTP) and Solid Waste Management (SWM) will be considered an added advantage.
  • Good understanding and experience in partnerships management and ability to work with partners.
  • Understanding and practical experience of programming based on Systems Thinking.
    Good understanding and knowledge of WASH system strengthening, WASH governance and advocacy.
  • Knowledge of sector-related (WASH) national guidelines, policies, sector strategies as well as international frameworks
  • Knowledge of WASH in various contexts viz. humanitarian, development and DRR is an added advantage.
  • Good understanding of gender and social inclusion related issues an assets
  • Excellent facilitation, coaching and communication skills with fluency in written and verbal English and Nepali Language
  • Proven analytical and decision-making skills in a challenging context
  • Creative, flexible, and pro-active, willingness to learn and to share knowledge.
  • Proven ability to work creatively, innovatively, and effectively with limited direct supervision.
  • Willingness to live and work in the field,
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and Power point, outlook) and web-based communications systems/ technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience of digital-based (smart-phone) based data collection and analysis.
