Advocacy and Legal Officer

Forum for Women, Law and Development (FWLD) is an autonomous, non-profit, non-governmental organization established on May 29, 1995 for the protection, promotion and enjoyment of women’s rights, children’s rights, minorities’ rights and the rights of marginalized groups. FWLD envisions a world where human rights are fully realized where social injustice and discrimination are eradicated, and where equality prevails. To achieve it, FWLD has been constantly working to change the discriminatory laws and the discrimination embedded in society and culture.

Key responsibilities:

  • Handle legal issues and cases under the guidance of the Executive Director and Program Coordinator.
  • Assist in organizing and conducting training sessions, workshops, conferences, and other project-related events.
  • Support in the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs.
  • Ensure the smooth operation of legal cases.
  • Provide monthly progress reports to the Program Coordinator and as needed.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities based on abilities and program needs.

Person Specification

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Experience in handling legal issues and cases.
  • Understanding of development issues.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, including coursework and/or internships.
  • Coping skills to work with a diverse team and managing the responsibilities even on short notice;
  • Strong research and Analytical skills
  • Fluent in Nepali and English, both spoken and written;
  • Proficiency in computer use i.e. Microsoft word, excel, PowerPoint, email/internet, etc;

Work Environment

The Legal Officer will work directly with the Executive Director and Program Coordinator.
