Position Title: Forest Technician/Mobilizer

Location: Aamachhodingmo Rural Municipality, Rasuwa

Project: Project: Enhancing Climate Resilience in Aamachhodingmo (ECRA) Project

Reporting To: Programme Manager

Languages: Fluency in English  and Nepali (both spoken and written)

Salary: 35,000/- per month

Role Overview
The Forest Technician/Mobilizer will be integral to our forest management and conservation efforts, working closely with local communities and DFO Dhunche to promote sustainable practices and enhance forest stewardship. This role involves mobilizing community members, implementing forest management-related activities, and ensuring effective communication between the project team and the local population, particularly Tamang communities. The ideal candidate is willing to contribute to environmental efforts with practical knowledge of forest management and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities
Community Mobilization and Engagement

  • Foster relationships with local communities to promote participation in forest conservation initiatives.
  • Conduct community meetings, workshops, and training sessions focused on sustainable forest practices.
  • Engage community members in activities such as reforestation, sustainable harvesting, and forest protection.

Field Coordination

  • Implement forest management-related activities according to the project plan, including site clearance, tree planting, fencing, nursery management, and forest monitoring for 2Ha fenced plantation within fire destroyed forest of Aamachhodingmo Rural Municipality.
  • Coordinate with DFO Dhunche, CFUGs, and community leaders to align activities with local regulations and needs.
  • Regularly assess and report on the progress of forest restoration initiatives, addressing any challenges or issues that arise.

Training and Capacity Building

  • Identify training needs related to forest management and conservation within the CFUGs.
  • Organize and deliver capacity-building sessions on topics such as sustainable use of forest resources, fire prevention, and biodiversity conservation.
  • Support the development of community-based forest management plans for CFUGs.
  • Reporting and Documentation
  • Prepare detailed reports on field activities, community participation, and outcomes for the Programme Manager.
  • Document case studies and success stories to illustrate the impact of forest initiatives.
  • Collect and manage data related to forest health, reforestation progress, and community involvement.

Awareness and Advocacy

  • Raise awareness about the importance of forest conservation and sustainable practices within the community.
  • Advocate for community rights and involvement in forest management decisions.
  • Provide inputs for social media updates and communication materials related to forest management activities.

Resource Management

  • Assist in the distribution and management of resources, such as seedlings, tools, and equipment needed for forest management.
  • Ensure that resources are used effectively and sustainably in alignment with project goals.

Miscellaneous

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Programme Manager to support the overall success of forest management initiatives.

Qualifications and Skills
Education: Minimum a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or a related field. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of experience in forest management, community mobilization, or a related role.
  • Previous experience working with Tamang communities or other ethnic minorities is highly desirable.

Language: Fluency in Tamang and Nepali is required; proficiency in English is an asset.

Skills:

  • Practical knowledge of sustainable forest practices, silviculture, silvopasture  and forest resource management.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Competence in preparing reports, case studies, and other documentation.
  • Ability to conduct effective community training and capacity-building sessions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Flexibility in working hours may be required to accommodate community schedules and project needs.
