Chemistry Lab Incharge – 1 Position
We are looking for a responsible and organized Lab Incharge to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Chemistry laboratory. The role involves handling laboratory equipment and materials, maintaining proper records and files, ensuring the lab is clean and organized, and providing necessary practical support for laboratory activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Laboratory Operations and Management
- Oversee the overall functioning of the Chemistry Laboratory and ensure that it remains well maintained, organized and adequately equipped with the required tools, equipment and materials.
- Maintain accurate inventory of laboratory equipment, materials and supplies by monitoring stock levels and identifying requirements.
- Collaborate with faculty members to develop and arrange experiments, demonstrations and practical assignments, including sourcing required materials and preparing experiment protocols.
- Coordinate with the Store and concerned vendors for timely procurement and adequate availability of laboratory materials.
B. Laboratory Safety and Risk Management
- Enforce laboratory safety protocols and guidelines, including safe handling, storage and disposal of equipment and hazardous materials.
- Manage laboratory incidents such as student accidents, fights, excessive noise and other safety or behavioral issues during practical sessions.
C. Equipment Maintenance and Management
- Manage the maintenance, calibration and repair of laboratory equipment and instruments by coordinating with technicians and vendors and troubleshooting equipment when required.
D. Student Practical Classes
- Provide guidance and assistance to students and faculty members during practical sessions by explaining procedures, demonstrating techniques and ensuring adherence to experimental protocols.
- Provide necessary guidance to ensure proper and safe use of laboratory facilities and equipment.
E. Records and Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of experiments, equipment maintenance, laboratory safety procedures, inventory, laboratory usage and related expenditures.
- Maintain confidential records of students and subject teachers and document student learning and behavioral issues observed during practical sessions.
F. Reporting and Coordination
- Prepare and submit relevant reports and maintain updated databases related to laboratory activities, equipment, inventory, practical sessions and incidents.
- Coordinate with faculty members, Store, technicians, vendors and concerned authorities to address laboratory requirements and operational issues.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Qualification: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Science or a relevant field. Candidates with specialization in Chemistry are preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in laboratory handling, laboratory management or a related field. Experience in an educational institution or academic laboratory will be an advantage.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
a. Strong practical knowledge of Chemistry laboratory equipment, instruments, materials, experimental procedures and laboratory safety protocols.
b. Ability to operate, maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and coordinate maintenance and repair when required.
c. Strong laboratory management, inventory control, record keeping and documentation skills.
d. Good student handling, practical session management, communication and coordination skills with students, faculty members, technicians and vendors.
e. Strong attention to detail, problem solving, safety awareness and ability to respond effectively to accidents, equipment breakdowns and other laboratory incidents.
