About the project

DanChurchAid in Nepal (DCA Nepal) together with the Social Service Centre (SOSE Nepal), Youth Innovation Lab (YI-Lab) and Kamiya Mahila Jagaran Samaj (KMJS) is implementing a research program entitled “Piloting L&D assessment and system for climate-induce hazards” from March 2024- December 2024.

The research project will focus on two hazards- flood hazard in Gulariya, Bardiya and Drought hazard in Dullu, Dailekh. The project will design a study framework based on the national assessment framework designed by the Government of Nepal (GoN) in 2021. YI-Lab and DCA Nepal will lead the process with inputs from other partners and national, provincial, and local governments and line agencies. Based on the survey methodology, the project will conduct qualitative (FGDs and KIls) and quantitative (mobile app-based) assessments for two types of hazards – flood and drought. DCA Nepal and YI-Lab will jointly work with technical consultants to design and implement a study on loss and damage focused on the hazards mentioned above in respective municipalities, together with respective partners- KMJS and SOSEC Nepal.

Job Description

The Climate Change Research Officer will be responsible for the effective management and implementation of project activities, ensuring coordination with key government stakeholders, and contributing to capacity-building and knowledge management related to disaster risk reduction.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Climate Change, Disaster Risk Reduction, or Similar Discipline.
  • Experience in project management, preferably in the field of Climate change, disaster risk reduction, or relevant Fields.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills.
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural context.
  • Proven ability to prepare and manage documentation and reporting
  • Proven experience in conducting workshops, training, and capacity-building activities
  • Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Good writing skills

Roles and Responsibilities

Project Management:

  • Effectively manage project activities, including preparation of logistics and procurement actions necessary for the implementation of activities.
  • Monitor and evaluate project progress to ensure alignment with project goals.

Stakeholder Coordination:

  • Coordinate with government stakeholders including NDRRMA, MoHA, MoFE, MoFAGA, MoALD, and other members of the technical expert committee.
  • Facilitate project implementation in collaboration with relevant partners.

Capacity-Building:

  • Organize and conduct capacity-building workshops for relevant municipalities.
  • Facilitate knowledge building within the municipalities and other relevant bodies.

Meeting Facilitation:

  • Organize and facilitate meetings with the technical committee to present the project framework.
  • Gather and incorporate feedback from the technical committee to refine project activities.

Research and Project Support:

  • Contribute to the planning and design of research projects.
  • Support ongoing projects with necessary input and coordination.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare progress reports, briefings, concept notes, PowerPoint presentations, letters, and other necessary documentation.
  • Maintain a sound documentation system to ensure all project activities and outputs are well recorded.

Knowledge Management:

  • Support the unit in aspects of knowledge management related to disaster risk reduction.
  • Ensure that knowledge and insights gained from project activities are effectively captured and shared.Skills and Experience
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for mapping and spatial analysis
  • Familiarity with disaster risk assessment methodologies and tools
  • Understanding of climate change adaptation strategies
  • Experience in implementing community-based disaster risk reduction initiatives
  • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation
  • Ability to develop and deliver training programs
  • Understanding of remote sensing technologies for disaster monitoring
  • Knowledge of relevant national and international disaster risk reduction frameworks and policies
