BASE OF OPERATIONS

Any of the five offices – Regional Office Surkhet, Rara Watershed– Gamgadi (Mugu District), Tila Watershed (Kalikot District), Middle Karnali – Rakam (Dailekh District), and Lower Karnali – Lamichuha.

These positions will require frequent travel to priority Watershed Offices of Karnali Region.

  • Watershed Managers in case of Watershed offices

PROJECT BACKGROUND:

The USAID Karnali Water Activity will create healthy, resilient, and water-secure communities at the watershed level through strengthened water and sanitation governance that improves water resource management (including water for more resilient and biodiverse ecosystems), enhances sustainable access to drinking water, improves agriculture water management, and reduces the fecal pathogen burden in the environment from poorly managed non-sewered sanitation through fecal sludge management. The program team will methodically integrate WRM, watershed biodiversity conservation, and water and sanitation service delivery by mapping and strengthening the roles, connections, and capacities of key actors and stakeholders system-wide.

Karnali Water Activity operates from the main office located in Kathmandu with a field office located in Surkhet, Karnali Province, and satellite offices at the four watersheds, Rara, Tila, Lower Karnali and Middle Karnali.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The main duties of the driver will be to drive project vehicle for project purpose following the project protocol and guideline, maintain vehicle logbook, and be responsible to ensure the project vehicle is regularly maintained as per schedule. Essential duties include but are not limited to:

  • Drive office vehicle for transporting of authorized personnel, following the project’s protocol and guidelines and local driving laws and regulations
  • Ensure proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and up to date vehicle logbook.
  • Ensure that vehicle permits, and insurance are up to date.
  • Ensure that the vehicle has complete utility kits such as toolbox, umbrella, water, fire extinguisher, first aid, etc.
  • Assist the operation Team on maintaining accurate records and paperwork on all vehicle-related purchases and maintenance
  • Prepared to drive outside of their duty station and to the project sites complying with the project’s driving rules
  • Provide support to both programming and operations teams including but not limited to deliver and pick up document, deliver and pick up staff / guest, photocopy and scan document, and other duties assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

 

  • Min SLC/SEE degree is required with 11 years’ relevant experience or PLC/+2 with 9 years’ relevant experience (For excluded group, 10 years’ relevant experience or PLC/+2 with 8 years’ relevant experience).
  • Preference will be given to applicants with USAID or other donor project experience.
  • Able to communicate in English
  • Excellent driving record
  • Good sense of geography, directions and locations
  • Valid local driver’s license for two and four wheeled vehicles
  • Willingness to travel frequently within the country.
  • Experienced in driving in difficult terrains. Ability to check road conditions before departure for safety precaution
  • Able to maintain good working relationships with team members while retaining high levels of confidentiality and discretion

Level of Effort/Timeline and Reporting

The level of effort is 260 days per year. The positions will be based in Surkhet and four Watershed Offices namely – Rara, Tila, Lower Karnali and Middle Karnali, with frequent travel to other Watershed Offices of Karnali Region. The employment contract will be on a yearly basis, with possible extensions.

Reporting and Supervision

This position will report to the Field Operations Coordinator in the case of the Regional Office at Surkhet and to the Watershed Managers for watershed Offices.
