Job Description
Position Overview:
Field Officer (Health) for the SPROUTS project will lead health-related activities focusing on leprosy management, mental health, and menstrual hygiene management (MHM), Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), while advocating for people with disabilities and promoting gender equality. This role requires strong coordination skills to engage community members, local leaders, and stakeholders in promoting health awareness and improving health outcomes in the project area.
Key tasks and responsibilities
- Conduct the leprosy/ NTDs orientation sessions, self-care sessions for SHG members,
- Organize and conduct leprosy screening camps in collaboration with local health authorities of working municipalities.
- Facilitate awareness sessions on leprosy symptoms, prevention, treatment, and combating social stigma.
- Play vital role to conduct the basic leprosy training (BLT) for the health workers of the project implementing area
- Follow up of defaulter and absentee cases of leprosy of project area
- Implement mental health awareness programs and workshops for community members, emphasizing de-stigmatization and supportive practices.
- Collaborate with mental health professionals and local institutions to provide support and referrals for individuals in need.
- Train healthcare workers and community volunteers for psychosocial support and counselling services including project staff
- Collaborate with mental health professionals to provide specialized support through visits or telemedicine
- Conduct the MHM sessions for SHG/ Community members, school children of project area
- Establish MHM clubs and forums to educate women and girls on menstrual hygiene practices, using safe and sustainable methods mobilizing the MHM clubs.
- Advocate for improved access to menstrual hygiene products and facilities in collaboration with local authorities and stakeholders.
- Facilitate to provide the reusable pad making training for SHG members and MHM club members.
- Promote WASH practices through community awareness campaigns and training sessions.
- Facilitate the construction and maintenance of sanitation facilities and safe drinking water sources in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
- Support to develop the Ward office of RM/Municipality (M-WASHCC) for the WASH improvement plan (policy) and facilitate to implement.
- Conduct the behaviour change campaigns including the local leaders, health workers including female community health volunteers to encourage adoption of healthy WASH practices by community peopleAdvocate for the rights and inclusion of people with disabilities in community activities, infrastructure, and services.
- Promote gender equality through advocacy and awareness campaigns, ensuring women and girls have equal access to health services and opportunities.
- Facilitate the formation and capacity building of SHGs, ensuring inclusive participation and representation from marginalized groups.
- Provide training on group dynamics, leadership, and income-generating activities to enhance the economic empowerment of SHG members.
- Train community members, including SHG members and volunteers, on health- related topics such as leprosy management, mental health awareness, MHM, and WASH practices.
- Provide guidance and support for the establishment and strengthening of health-related committees within the community.
- Network with local organizations, government agencies, and NGOs to enhance collaboration and resource-sharing for health initiatives and advocacy efforts.
- Build strong relationships with community leaders, stakeholders and local government to foster support and participation in health promotion activities.
- Collect the baseline/mid-term/end line data of the project activities, outcomes, and impacts to ensure effective program monitoring and evaluation.
- Prepare regular reports, case studies, and success stories highlighting project achievements and challenges for internal and external stakeholders.
Job Specification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, or health related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in community engagement, project implementation, data collection, and reporting, preferably in the development sector.
- Proven experience in implementing health programs, particularly in leprosy management, mental health support, MHM, and WASH.
- Strong organizational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and priorities effectively.
- Experience in advocating for people with disabilities and promoting gender equality in community development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with cultural sensitivity and the ability to work in a multicultural environment.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate and engage with diverse communities and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of leprosy, public health, livelihoods, gender equality, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability issues.
- Experience in facilitating training sessions, workshops, and community mobilization activities.
- Ability to work independently, prioritizes tasks, and manages time effectively in a dynamic and challenging environment.
- Fluency in Nepali language, both written and spoken. Knowledge of English is an advantage.
- Familiarity with local contexts, customs, and cultures in Nawalpur and Nawalparasi districts is preferred.
- Two-wheeler driving license is required.
