Dalit Lives Matter Global Alliance (DLMGA) is conducting research in Nepal documenting structural changes that advance health equity for caste-oppressed communities. The study identifies police and practices reducing inequality and seeks Field Research to support the Lead Research for field work, data collection, translation, transcription and synthesis

Position: Field Researcher
No. of Vacancy: 4
Work Station: Madhesh Province (assigned districts)

Requirements:

  • Must be from Madhesh Province,
  • Must be fluent in at least two of the local languages (Maithili, Bhojpuri, Awadhi, Bajjika, Hindi, or others)
  • Preference will be given to women, Dalit, or applicants representing marginalised communities.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, social science, or a related field with 2 years of experience in qualitative research

Scope of work

1. Research Training: Participate in research training to understand the objectives of research, guidance on use of data collection guide, techniques of qualitative research, ethical measures and planning
2. Conduct qualitative interviews and discussions: Carry out key-informant interview (KIIs), in-depth interviews (IDIs) and facilitate focus group discussions (FGDs) in selected research sites using structured guides provided by the research team.
3. Support participant identification and coordination: Assist in identifying, confirming, and organizing participants for interviews and group discussions, in close coordination with the research team.
4. Document proceedings through detailed note-taking: Prepare thorough field notes during and after each interaction, capturing key points, non-verbal cues, and contextual observations to supplement audio recordings:
5. Pre-test data collection tools: Participate in testing and refining qualitative research tools before full deployment, offering field-based feedback to ensure clarity and relevance of the instruments.
6. Coordinate logistics during field visits: Handle day-to-day arrangements such as managing interview locations, coordinating schedules, and ensuring materials and equipment are ready for use.
7. Ensure adherence to ethical protocols: Follow consent procedures, ensure participants’ confidentiality, and maintain respectful engagement in line with ethical standards outlined in the research protocol.
8. Liaise regularly with the research team: Maintain ongoing communication with the Research Officer to share updates, raise challenges, and contribute to reflection and adaptation throughout the fieldwork phase.
