VISION STATEMENT
UNDP Nepal works with the people and Government of Nepal, and other development partners to pursue equitable and sustainable human development goals through eradication of poverty, increase in livelihood opportunities, improvement in community resilience against conflict, disasters and impact of climate change, while laying down strong foundations for a society based on rule of law with an inclusive and participatory democracy.

UNDP Nepal has been supporting the Nepalese people in their efforts against poverty since 1963. Much of this support has gone to strengthening the capacity of government, civil society and community groups to fight poverty, and to bring national and international development partners together to design and implement successful projects that contribute to Nepal’s development objectives.

Task description
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Head of HR or her/his designated mandated representative(s), the UNV HR Associate will:
- Assist in carrying out the HR administrative functions for various recruitment processes for upcoming project(s);
- Assist in setting the criteria for long-listing and shortlisting of the applicants;
- Long listing of the applications;
- Listing of applicants’ details;
- Coordination for written exam and interview;
- Minutes preparation;
- Sending out reference checks;
- Preparation of documentation for various processes;
- Proper filing of HR documents;
- Assist in carrying out procurement functions for various upcoming project(s);
- Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:
- Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
- Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
- Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
- Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
- Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
- Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
- As an active UNDP team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to UNDP and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including:
o Recruitment process are implemented within planned timeframe and concerned authority are approached timely to clear bottlenecks.
o Archiving of the HR documents, and other cost-effective solutions are carried out.
o HR data are maintained for GESI analysis in Country Office and Project workforce. The incumbent is able to identify and use simple tools to enter and maintain data. - Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment
- Procurement processes are carried out timely to ensure smooth project implementation
- A final report of her/ his accomplishments are prepared and shared with her/his supervisor at the end of the assignment.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Age: 18 – 80
Nationality: Candidate must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.
REQUIREMENTS
Required experience
3 years of experience in the national and/or international level in HR, administration or procurement, experience working in the UN or other international/national development organization;
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office including data management and working knowledge of ERP system.
- Good knowledge of spoken and written English and Nepali languages.
- Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
- Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
- Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
- Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
- Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
- Sound security awareness;
- Have affinity with or interest in volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

OTHER INFORMATION
Living conditions and remarks
Living conditions in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, are good. In Kathmandu comfortable inexpensive flats (furnished and unfurnished) are available. Imported and local food and clothing are abundantly available. Water is in somewhat short supply and not safe to drink without treatment. Public transport is easily available and generally reliable. Kathmandu has a temperate climate with coldest temperature reaching just above zero at the night during the winter and mild but humid during the monsoon period, mid-June to end September.
As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan.
