Position Title: Staff Nurse

Location: Dolakha

Possible is seeking Staff Nurses (S.B.A Trained preferred) for Charikot Hospital, our full-service community hospital located in Dolakha District, rural Nepal, that has served over 300,000 patients since the organization’s founding.
Our Staff Nurses are responsible for supporting all clinical services at Charikot Hospital (inpatient, outpatient, and emergency care) with high standards of patient care, and will be challenged to improve their nursing and teaching skills with strong support from the leadership team.
Applications are being accepted on an immediate, rolling basis for Nepali candidates.

Must Haves:

1. Excellent clinical skills

• Completed staff nurse education (proficiency certificate level passed) from recognized university.
• At least one year of experience caring for patients in a hospital setting.
• Strong OB experience required.
• OT/SBA training/experience preferred.
• Registered in Nepal Health Nursing Council.
• Technical skills to fulfill all clinical responsibilities as outlined in the Areas of Responsibility section below.

Management Structure:

Reports To: Nurse In-Charge or Deputy Nursing In Charge

Direct Reports: None

Big 3 Responsibilities:

1. Provide competent and compassionate patient care according to the system and duty detailed by the nursing team and in consultation with the remainder of the clinical team.
2. Know, follow, and help improve nursing standard operating procedures (SOPs), and the organization and hygiene of the IPD and ED.
3. Support the hospital management structure by full participation in appropriate meetings, quality improvement efforts, knowing and following hospital guidelines and standard operating procedures.
Areas of Responsibility (AoR):
1. Provide competent and compassionate patient care according to the system and duty detailed by the nursing team and in consultation with the remainder of the clinical team.

IPD:

• Admit and discharge the patient to/from the IPD
• Appropriately triage patients based on severity of illness,
• Assess patients regularly based on their condition
• Perform and record vital signs and other relevant measurements (eg I&O, weights, Oxygen saturation, bleeding estimates) on patients daily VS chart or flow sheet
• Make nursing notes in chart when needed to inform doctors of important information; this may be in Nepali or English
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by doctors
• Notify doctor on call with any important changes in the status of the patient, for clarification of any unclear orders, or other circumstances that may effect patients safety and care
• Provide explanations to the patients of their treatments, their medications and kindly answer their questions
• Provide teaching, emotional support and encouragement to the patients
• Participate in rounds with knowledge of the patient’s current condition, ask questions that the nursing staff has on patient care or condition, keep up the nursing logbook
• Provide all necessary assistance in the management of emergency cases or deliveries
• Remain awake for duration of duty hours when on overnight duty
• Give and take handover at specified times for change of shitfs
Labor and Delivery:
• Conduct uncomplicated deliveries independently and assist as well
• Monitor labor and keep the partograph
• Notify the doctor of conditions outlined in SOPs or that you think may effect the good outcome of the fetus or mother

2. Know, follow, and help improve nursing standard operating procedures (SOPs), and the organization and hygiene of the IPD and ED.

• Be aware of and follow CH policies for leaves and attendance, uniform allowances and other responsibilities
• Know the nursing procedures and help improve them with suggestions and if asked writing of nursing SOPs
• Teach nursing and CMA students rotating at CH
• Paticipate in CH teaching sessions, teach if you can, and teach other employees when asked

3. Support the hospital management structure by full participation in appropriate meetings, quality improvement efforts, knowing and following hospital guidelines and standard operating procedures.

• Know and follow hospital operating guidelines in all operations
• Participate in appropriate meetings: nursing department, medical staff, general staff, and other meetings as needed
• Know and follow nursing department guidelines and standard operating procedures
• Respond to disasters and participate in disaster trainings
• Contribute ideas for hospital improvements, and participate in Quality Teams
• Interact professionally with all hospital staff
• Represent the hospital and its best interests in the community and with government, civil and commercial operations
