JOB OPPORTUNITY

Position: IT and Data Manager

Infrastructure & Operations

1. Oversee maintenance, upgrades, and reliable operation of core infrastructure (networks wired/wireless, servers, cloud systems, data centres, telecom/VOIP).
2. Manage device ecosystem — computers, laptops, tablets/chromebooks for students/staff, interactive whiteboards, classroom tech, computer labs.
3. Ensure high-availability systems for learning management systems (LMS — e.g., Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, Google Classroom), student information systems (SIS), and email ( Google Workspace or Veda)

Support & User Services

1. Provide leadership for help desk/user support services — quick resolution of issues for faculty, staff, students/parents.
2. Organise and often deliver training & professional development for teachers and staff on educational technology tools, digital pedagogy, and productivity software.
3. Promote effective and innovative use of technology in teaching and learning.

Security, Compliance & Risk Management

1. Lead cybersecurity efforts — protect sensitive student data (under laws), implement policies, conduct risk assessments, manage firewalls, endpoint protection, multi-factor authentication, and incident response.
2. Ensure compliance with education-specific regulations, data privacy, accessibility standards, and acceptable use policies.
3. Develop and test disaster recovery/business continuity plans (critical when systems support grading, attendance, online exams, etc.).

Educational Technology Focus

1. Evaluate, pilot, and implement tools that enhance classroom instruction (e.g., AI tools, interactive displays, assessment platforms, video conferencing for hybrid/remote learning).
2. Collaborate with academic leadership, curriculum teams, and teachers to integrate technology meaningfully into pedagogy.
3. Support digital equity initiatives — device distribution, internet access programs and accessibility accommodations.

Strategic & Leadership

1. Develop and implement long-term IT strategy and short-term plans aligned with the institution’s educational mission, teaching goals, and administrative needs.
2. Lead budgeting, forecasting, and procurement for IT (hardware, software licenses, cloud services, etc.).
3. Manage the IT department/team — hiring, supervising, training, and performance evaluation of technicians, support staff, network admins, etc.

Student Information System (SIS/MIS) Management

1. Serve as the primary expert and administrator for the SIS — configuring, maintaining, upgrading, troubleshooting, and optimizing the system.
2. Oversee data entry processes — ensuring accurate input of student demographics, enrollment, attendance, grades, behaviour, health records, timetables/scheduling, and transfers.
3. Manage data imports/exports — from external sources and integrations with other platforms (e.g., Google Workspace, finance software).

Data Accuracy, Integrity & Quality Assurance

1. Regularly audit, clean, validate, and reconcile data to maintain high standards — identifying and correcting errors, duplicates, and inconsistencies.
2. Establish and enforce data standards, procedures, and protocols for all users (admin staff, teachers, registrars).
3. Track and resolve historical/backlog data issues, Reporting & Analytics
4. Generate, customise, and distribute reports — daily/weekly attendance, progress/grades, assessment results, enrollment trends, demographic breakdowns, compliance reports
5. Produce ad-hoc/custom reports for school leaders, teachers, counsellors, and boards (e.g., intervention tracking, predicted grades, value-added analysis).
6. Support data analysis for school improvement — identifying trends, achievement gaps, and informing interventions/curriculum planning.

Compliance, Privacy & Security

1. Ensure strict adherence to data protection laws — managing access controls, consent, and data sharing protocols.
2. Act as (or support) the point of contact for data protection queries, breaches, and subject access requests.
3. Prepare and submit mandatory state/federal/national reports (e.g., census data, assessment submissions).
4. Maintain audit trails and backup/disaster recovery for critical educational data.

Training, Support & User Enablement

1. Train and support school staff (teachers, admins) on using the SIS, entering data correctly, interpreting reports, and applying data insights.
2. Provide ongoing guidance on best practices for data use in teaching/learning (e.g., tracking progress, target setting).

Strategic & Operational Contributions

1. Collaborate with leadership (principal/headteacher, deputy heads, curriculum leads) to align data systems with school priorities (e.g., raising attainment, reducing absences, supporting inclusion).
2. Contribute to data governance — developing policies, participating in data steering groups.
3. Oversee broader institutional data warehouses, support research/evaluation, and manage enrollment forecasting
4. Managing the student information system/database to record and update enrollment data
5. Processing and verifying enrollment documentation, often assisting parents/guardians with registration procedures, answering queries, and supporting centralised or online enrollment systems.
6. Ensuring accurate data entry and reconciliation (e.g., cross-checking manual vs. computerised records) to avoid errors that could affect reporting or student services.
7. Analysing enrollment trends and generating reports for school administrators, such as forecasting class sizes, tracking enrollment changes, or supporting resource allocation.

Examinations & Assessment Coordination

1. Manage internal/external exam processes — entries, timetables, invigilation logistics, results import, appeals, certificate production.
2. Oversee assessment data — baseline testing, formative/summative results, progress tracking.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, statistics, business, or related field.
  • Certificate: Google for Education Administrator
  • 5+ years in information systems, data management, Ed-tech exposure, and SIS.
  • Experience in educational environments is highly valued (e.g., managing LMS like Canvas/Moodle/Google Classroom, student information systems)
  • Strong technical skills ( databases, SQL/reporting tools)
