Medical Officer

Job Description

Overall purpose of the job:

Work as a member of the hospital medical team in the care of inpatients, outpatients, and the emergency room. Participate in the doctors’ on-call duty roster.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for patient care in wards, Out-Patient department, and the emergency room, serving both Leprosy and General patients.
  • Diagnose and treat patients, especially those with leprosy, while maintaining accurate clinical documentation in both OPD and inpatient departments.
  • Generate appropriate referral documents for patients requiring transfer to other medical facilities.
  • Handle patient admissions, including the completion of medical records, case sheets, and forms, as well as patient discharges, with the necessary document completion.
  • Conduct regular ward rounds and ulcer assessments, prescribing treatments and documenting patient records.
  •  Provide care and ward rounds for all admitted patients, including those with Leprosy, Surgical, Medical General Patients, and Emergency patients, even on weekends, public holidays, and at night.
  • Fulfill night call duties as assigned, remaining within the hospital compound and ensuring easy accessibility for emergency cases.
  • Attend weekly Doctors’ Meetings/Tutorials and present materials as requested by the Medical Superintendent.
  • Attend satellite clinics, such as the Patan clinic, as per assignment. Participate in medical camps as needed.
  •  Be available for operation theatre duties when required.
  • Ensure the hospital’s smooth operation by collaborating and coordinating with all departments.
  • Any other job as assigned by the Line Manager.

Person Specification:

  •  Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery MBBS (or equivalent) from a recognized university with Nepal Medical Council Registration Preferred Experience:
  • Newly graduated medical officers are welcome to apply.
  •  One or two years of working as a hospital-based medical officer would be an advantage.
  •  Good attitude working in team.
  •  Gender sensitive and Knowledge on Leprosy.
  • Flexible in terms of work time, workload, work activities and travel
  •  Ability to keep abreast of advancements in the field of specialization.
  • Ability to ensure the highest standards in patient care and compliance with healthcare regulations.
