About the Project
MinErgy in partnership with Universität Innsbruck, Austria (lead) and Greentech Knowledge Solutions Pvt Ltd (GKSPL), India and Asociación Española de Normalización (UNE), Spain is implementing a four-year project BUILDING Energy Efficiency in Nepal (BEEN). BEEN Project is funded by the European Union under the SWITCH-Asia Programme, and being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MoFAGA). The overall objective of BEEN is to contribute to the development of low-carbon and resource-efficiency in the Nepalese building sector by integrating energy efficiency (EE) and renewable energy (RE) measures in design and construction of new buildings and in retrofitting of existing buildings. BEEN aims to achieve the overall objective through capacitating Building-MSMEs (Micro Small and Medium Enterprises) to adapt/transform their services and products for EE building design, construction and/or retrofitting; increasing awareness of the market on EE design and construction services, products and practices; increasing availability of financial products and services targeting EE and RE in building and construction sector and capacitating local, provincial and federal government units to devise and implement policies/standards to promote EE in building sector.

Position: Project Engineer/Architect
Project: BUILDING Energy Efficiency in Nepal (BEEN)
Duty station: Kathmandu, Nepal
Reports to: Senior Architect
Expected date of joining: 1st February 2024
Job Summary
The Project Engineer/Architect will be responsible to design and execute capacity building activities, conduct building simulation work and carry out building performance monitoring. S/he will support to develop training packages, provide technical support for integration of EE and RE measures in buildings, carry out performance monitoring and assist in development of innovative marketing strategies to promote EE and RE in buildings.
Responsibilities
- Identify buildings for showcasing, performance monitoring and integration of EE and RE measures within BEEN’s partner municipalities
- Provide technical support for integration of EE and RE measures in design and retrofitting of buildings
- Support in organizing design charrettes (or 3-4 day intensive design workshops) through support in design of building HVAC and other services
- Participate on performance monitoring of buildings
- Organize training program for building MSMEs and other relevant stakeholders
- Assist in design, development and installation of efficient HVAC system and renewable energy technologies to enhance building performance
- Support in promotion and dissemination of energy efficient building designs in partner municipalities
- Represent project at conferences, round-tables, committees or working groups
- Assist in preparing information leaflets/brochures and other marketing materials
- Support in development of standards for resource efficient building materials and contribute to the formulation of policies for integrating energy efficiency into building regulations
- Assist in developing manuals / guidelines, case studies, reports etc. for energy efficient building design, resource-efficient materials etc
- Perform other functions as required and directed by the Senior Architect
Minimum Requirement
- Education: Minimum Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably in energy/mechanical/civil) or Architecture
- Experience: minimum 4 years with experience in EE building design
- Understanding of building physics
- Knowledge on building energy simulation software’s
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Project or equivalent
Desirables
- Experience of conducting energy audits
- Experience of renewable energy systems and software like RETScreen
- Basic understanding of performance of building materials and HVAC system
- Qualified female candidates and candidates from ethnic minorities, socially excluded and disadvantaged groups are encouraged to apply
