OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The objective of the WHO Nepal Country Office is to implement the Country Cooperation Strategy by supporting the Nepal Government in formulation, implementation and evaluation of national health policies, strategies and plans, developing and managing WHO’s technical cooperation programmes at the country level. WHO provides guidance and technical support in organizing the humanitarian health response following emergencies and in revitalizing the capacity of the health sector to rebuild and recover from emergencies in appropriate and sustainable ways. The Country Office collaborates with the Government of Nepal and relevant stakeholders in support of their efforts of achieving national health goals; of ensuring the attainment of universal health coverage and of contributing to global and regional public health action by providing need-based technical assistance in national level policy formulation, setting norms and standards, improving knowledge dissemination and management, monitoring country health situation and building sustainable institutional capacity, to play a greater leadership role in different national level policy and technical forums.

Within this framework, this specific position will support NTP in effective operation of a comprehensive Tuberculosis Programme according to country context and in line with Regional and Global approaches and develop plans for implementation and help NTP in execution of monitoring and evaluation of TB control activities to achieve the End-TB targets.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the overall guidance of WHO Representative to Nepal and close supervision of Team Lead – Communicable Disease Programme, the incumbent will work as National Professional Officer in which capacity he/she will perform the following duties:

  • Assist National TB Programme/Ministry of Health to implement strategic and operational plans, manuals and guidelines for TB control while ensuring that these are in line with WHO recommendations and NTP/MoHP long term plans.
  • Assist NTP and its partners in developing training materials for TB control.
  • Assist in TB data reporting to global TB database.
  • Assist in planning, implementation and scaleup of Drug Resistant TB programme.
  • Assist in design and implementation of operational research related to TB.
  • Support in implementation and scale up of TB Free Nepal Initiative in the country.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Supervisors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: First university degree in Public Health from a recognized University
Desirable: Knowledge of epidemiology and data analysis and TB surveys

Experience

Essential: At least 1 year of experience of working with TB Control in the development and implementation of TB programmes.

Desirable: Familiarity with government structure and procedures and experience working with the government counterparts and familiarity with WHO policies and practices or working experience with WHO or other UN Agencies at the national level is an asset.

  • Thorough knowledge of Tuberculosis control and the country needs.
  • Good administrative knowledge of the ministries and other related department/agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in harmony with national/international staff of WHO and MoHP maintaining poise even in a difficult situation.

REMUNERATION

Remuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at NPR 2,445,001 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
