Program Name: “Unified together Humanitarian assistance and Disaster Prepaidness in Nepal (UTHAN) in Jumla & Kalikot district in West Nepal project
Duty station: One for Jumla and one for Kalikot

Job purpose:
Overall implementation of the project- “Unified together Humanitarian assistance and Disaster Prepaidness in Nepal (UTHAN) at Jumla & Kalikot district in West Nepal project Implementation and coordinating with stakeholders including partner. The incumbent will be responsible for mobilizing team and influencing government for achieving project goal and results. The focus will be capacity building of target groups, changing social norms, behavior and knowledge. Project will strengthening the disaster preparedness.

Dimensions of Role:
Community organizer (CO) is responsible to implement community mobilization activities under community mobilization of “Unified together Humanitarian assistance and Disaster Prepaidness in Nepal (UTHAN) in Jumla & Kalikot district in West Nepal project. The Community organizer (CO) works closely under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator and Project Head of PACE Nepal to ensure all community mobilization work of UTHAN is effectively, efficiently and timely implemented. S/he assists and works closely with the M&E and Documentation Officer, Finance Coordinator and Admin & Finance Officer in forming and strengthening capacities of community forums; facilitating, implementing and reporting conduct Activities; and conducting a range of activities in adherence to community mobilization. S/he will closely work with local and community- based groups/organizations such as mothers’ groups, child club, youth, school, adolescent, Ward level and Palika and all other appropriate community-based organizations and individuals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Form and strengthen capacities of community groups, child clubs, youth, school together with other community forums such as Task force committee, LDMC’ WDMC, child club, youth, adolescents and others as appropriate.
  • Facilitate meeting, discussion, events of youth, adolescent and task force.
  • Engage individual HHs, community forums, task force’ community group, child club, youth, adolescent and local government for developing appropriate environment.
  • Coordinate community and community level forum/institutions such as LDMCs, WDMCs Local Government, schools, community groups, child clubs, youths to jointly organize effective events/activities;
  • Conduct a linked participatory planning and review meeting;
  • Conduct child club, youth, trainings at the community level;
  • Conduct meetings and technically contribute to LDMC, municipality, and school level meetings for creating awareness and appropriate DRR environment for children, youth at school, communities’ level.
  •  Work closely with Community’ groups, child club, youth, school, Ward level and Palika level LDMCs (WDMCs), SMC, PTA, Local institution and other appropriate community forums.

Coordinate with relevant stakeholders at local level for effective implementation of project activities

  • Coordinate and conduct training and capacity building of community groups, child club, youth, school, Ward level, and Palika level LDMCs (WDMCs) and community forums.
  • Coordinate with local community forums and community groups, child club, youth, school, adolescent, Ward level, and Palika level LDMCs (WDMCs) facilitate successful.
  • Regularly convening of community forums meetings and events and organizing community events such as after activities, small doable actions for the support of disaster prepaidness etc.
  • Support to facilitate LDMC, WDMC processes such as preparation of disaster risk reduction prepaidness, implementation of activities, preparation of milestone reports and completion reports
  • Adopt different approaches to deal with community member can use to support their youth’s reading acquisition at the community level.

Dealing with Problems:

  • Good command over managing community expectations and maintaining important relationships: Capability to resolve conflicts coordinating government office/people. Skills to manage multiple tasks within a limited timeframe.
  • Plan and schedule own work, interpreting instructions and selecting appropriate methods/tools for delivery.
  • Operate in a high-pressure deadline-driven environment with professionalism.

Qualification:

  • Intermediate/+2 (intermediate) with min 3 years working experience in relevant area or Diploma in technical education with 2 years relevant experience
  • Experience in community mobilization works: dealing with community forums and people
  • Experience in implementation and providing technical inputs on community mobilization and strengthening capacities of community forums.

Knowledge, Skills and Behaviors:

  • Intermediate level or equivalent in education, social work, or related field
  • Experience in community mobilization works: dealing with community forums and people
  • At least 3-year experience in implementation and providing technical inputs on community mobilization and strengthening capacities of community forums.
  • Experience in conducting training for community forums
  • Experience in LDMC, WDMC and taskforce sector is preferred
  • Competent in computer skills especially Microsoft office such as word, excel and PowerPoint
  • Oral fluent Nepali and local language for communication
  • Reporting skills in Nepali and English is must
  • Preference will be given to a local resident of relevant palikas, who knows local culture, languages
