Mission and objectives
The Government of Nepal has adopted important normative frameworks for women’s human rights, including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals, and UN Security Council Resolutions 1325 and 1820. These commitments are enshrined in the Constitution of Nepal and efforts are being taken to ensure that all laws and policies conform with the constitutional provisions on gender equality.
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
Established by General Assembly resolution 64/289 of 2 July 2010 on system-wide coherence, with a mandate to assist the Member States and the United Nations system to progress more effectively and efficiently towards the goal of achieving gender equality, women’s empowerment, and upholding women’s rights, UN Women’s global programmatic priorities for the period 2018-2022 are: (a) a comprehensive and dynamic set of global norms, policies and standards on gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls is strengthened and implemented; (b) women lead, participate in and benefit equally from governance systems; (c) women have income security, decent work, and economic autonomy; (d) all women and girls live a life free from all forms of violence; and (e) women
Context
UN Women is committed to gender equality and inclusion from intersectional lens and Nepal office has been working on disability rights and inclusions through its targeted and mainstream programmes. UN Women Nepal is also implementing joint programme funded by United Nations Partnerships for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. UN Women Nepal Country Office diversity strategy aims to promotes increased diversity and equality of opportunity in our recruitment processes and workforce. This assignment will directly help UN Women to work closely with persons with disabilities and diversify the work force. He/She/They will work closely with Programme Unit under Programme Specialist and support to implement programmes on disability inclusion including UNPRPD joint programme. Further, he/she/they will support the programme unit to review and strengthen UN Women NCO programming from disability lens and manage inter-agency coordination on disability and LNOB work. He/She/They will also support to review and provide recommendations to strengthen internal documents and processes from disability lens and support NCO to make its internal processes and programming disability inclusive and responsive. This assignment will provide him/her/them to enhance their knowledge on gender equality, intersectionality, programme management, inter-agency coordination as well as UN/UN Women values and working culture.
Task description
Under the direct supervision of Programme Specialist, Inclusive Governance, the National UN Youth Volunteer will:
1) Provide programme management support to NCO programme intervention on gender and disability rights and inclusion.
- Support programme unit to identify areas for support and intervention to advance gender and disability inclusion programme in line with UN Women NCO strategic note 2023-27
- Prepare/review programme documents on gender and disability inclusion including terms of reference, partner and donor reports and deliverables.
- Support project coordination and implementation on gender and disability inclusion funded by UNPRPD.
- Provide technical support for developing and updating project briefs and factsheet on disability inclusion and rights.
- Maintain the repository of programme/project related documents on disability inclusion and rights.
- Provide technical inputs from disability lens to the annual workplan and budget;
- Review, coordinate and monitor the submission of financial and narrative reports from partners working on disability inclusion.
- Facilitate administrative, logistic and documentation support for partner meetings and stakeholder consultations on disability inclusion.
- Coordinate and provide technical support to strengthen disability inclusion component in the ongoing programme activities.
- Support Programme Specialist to identify opportunities for capacity building of partners on disability rights and inclusion as needed.
2. Provide technical inputs to strengthen internal documents and processes of UN Women from disability lens.
- Design and organize learning sessions on disability inclusion and rights for UN Women NCO personnel to promote disability inclusive organizational culture.
- Develop knowledge products on disability rights and inclusion to inform UN Women internal process and programming.
3. Inter-agency coordination and representation on disability rights and inclusion.
- Participate in inter-agency meetings on disability inclusion, LNOB-GESI working group and joint programming working group.
- Participate in donor meetings and public information events, as delegated, in particular on gender and disability inclusion.

Required experience
- 3 years of experience in development and humanitarian work. Prior work experience on gender equality, inclusive governance would be an added value
- Demonstrated experience working with and building partnerships with donors and civil society organizations internationally and in the field.
- Working experience with UN Women, other United Nations agencies or Development Organisation is an asset.

UN House in Nepal is disability friendly working place, marked with Brail signs in rest rooms, separately marked vehicle parking space, use of rubber tactile, standard curb ramps placed at various places of the pathways. The UN Volunteer will be based in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. Nepal is a country rich in its culture and nature.
