Project Director

Job Summary

The Project Director will provide technical and managerial leadership for a Global Health Security (GHS) project. They will devise technical strategies to meet desired outcomes and goals, ensuring that all implemented activities maintain high quality. The Project Director will manage a team of GHS program and technical staff which will work to strengthen capabilities for prevention, detection and response to infectious disease outbreaks in Nepal. The Project Director will lead the development of the workplan and will ensure project activities are on track with technical expertise informing project implementation. They will oversee project timelines and budgets, and assist in the development of donor reports and presentations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in the technical and managerial aspects of GHS activities, including the development of technical strategies and work plans, management of a diverse team, and quality assurance of activity implementation.
  • Strengthen coordination and collaboration with concerned government ministries and entities in health, food, agriculture and environment sectors for effective implementation of the GHS activities.
  • Coordinate with development partners, civil society, private sector, UN agencies and donors for creating synergies in strengthening GHS in Nepal.
  • Manage a multidisciplinary GHS team consisting of senior-level technical, operational, program and financial management staff.
  • Provide mentoring to program and technical staff promoting leadership and technical expertise in GHS.
  • Lead development and finalization of activity deliverables including periodic workplans, budgets, monitoring and evaluation frameworks, periodic reports and publication materials.
  • Maintain a constructive dialogue and technical exchange with implementing partners.
  • Ensure compliance with FHI 360 policies and procedures as well as donor requirements while effectively delivering the results.
  • Represent FHI 360 GHS team in national, regional and international forums, including conferences, policy briefings, and networking events.

Minimum Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in public health, global health, medicine, animal health/veterinary science, environmental science, or other related fields. Master’s preferred.
  • A minimum of 12 years of experience with progressively increasing responsibility in providing programmatic and technical leadership to design, implementation and management of large development programs involving multiple partners, stakeholders, and geographic areas, preferably in Nepal
  • A minimum of five years of experience in one or more of the following areas: infectious disease epidemiology and surveillance, emerging infectious diseases prevention and control, antimicrobial resistance, health systems strengthening, zoonotic diseases, or risk communication.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to plan, organize, and manage resources for successful completion of projects.
  • Demonstrated ability through previous experience to establish and maintain productive working relationships with government stakeholders, private sectors, partner organizations and donors.
  • Proven experience leading a project through evidence and data-driven decision-making.
  • Proven capability in leading large teams with individuals from diverse backgrounds and effectively resolving issues.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to travel domestically at least 25%
