Project Lead

Position Overview

The Project Lead is a key leadership role responsible for orchestrating and managing a multidisciplinary team to achieve the objectives outlined in the project. This position involves overseeing project activities, ensuring compliance with enlisted project standards, and collaborating with various stakeholders to drive successful project implementation and completion.

Roles and Responsibilities

Project Planning and Strategy

  •  Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, operational strategies and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to align project objectives
  •  Regularly monitoring project progress and addressing any concerns or obstacles that may arise.
  •  Implementing feedback mechanisms to gather input from stakeholders and adapt project strategies as needed.

Research, monitoring, and knowledge management

  •  Work closely with the project team to conduct baseline research in the project provinces and to identify relevant stakeholders.
  •  Work closely with Project Team to monitor project progress and achievements. Identify key issues, lessons learned, and best practices to document and publish.
  •  Identify challenges and opportunities for the development and implementation of ESMP plans and prepare a detailed implementation plan at all levels.

Budget Planning

  • Work closely with the finance team to develop an accurate project budget that aligns with financial guidelines.
  •  Regularly review and update the budget to reflect any changes in project scope or requirements.
  •  Verifying expenditures against the agreed budget to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  •  Periodically reviewing grant financial reports to track expenditure and budget utilization.
  •  Conducting project completion audits to assess financial management and compliance with grant
    requirements.

Compliance Documentation

  •  Develop a system for documenting and tracking adherence to the policies throughout the project lifecycle.
  •  Prepare regular reports demonstrating compliance for review and auditing purposes.

Coordinating and networking

  •  Maintain close coordination and contact with partnered provincial and municipal governments and coordinate for MoU signing with the concerned government authorities.
  •  Coordinate regularly with local government solid waste/sanitation/environment division as deemed
    necessary.

Grant monitoring and evaluation:

  •  Utilizing relevant tools such as Project Management tools to monitor project progress and evaluate outcomes with MERL officer
  •  Implementing progress reporting mechanisms to provide regular updates to donors and stakeholders.
  •  Soliciting feedback from stakeholders to assess project effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.

Quality Assurance and Reporting:

  • Establish and enforce quality standards for project deliverables, ensuring alignment with project expectation
  • Prepare and submit regular project status reports and documentation to the donor and the Project Steering Committee

Risk Identification and Mitigation:

  •  Conduct a comprehensive risk assessment to identify potential challenges and obstacles.
  •  Develop proactive risk mitigation strategies to minimize the impact of identified risks.

Communications strategy:

  •  Supervise the team to develop a comprehensive communications strategy to ensure effective messaging and outreach.
  • Implementing feedback mechanisms to gather input from stakeholders and adjust communication strategies accordingly.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master’s degree in social work, international relations, law, or any other related field
  •  Proven Experience at the Senior officer level of a minimum of 10 years or Managerial level of a
  • Minimum of 5 years. Candidate with previous experience in solid waste management is preferred.
  •  Excellent understanding of project management cycle including proposal development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and GESI approach.
  • Good understanding and/or experience of working in inclusion, the life transformation of vulnerable communities
  •  Willingness to have frequent field visits as per the need (60% in the field and 40% at the central level)
  •  Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation & public relation skills in both English and Nepali and leadership skills
  •  Able to work effectively and efficiently under pressure independently as well as in a team to bring tangible results
  • Empathetic, Energetic with a receptive learning attitude.

Contract Duration:

  •  2 Years, with potential for extension based on performance and funding.
