Project Officer

Background
The Network: Duryog Nivaran (DN), South Asia network for disaster mitigation was established in 1995 as a research, training, and advocacy network committed to promoting disaster risk reduction in South Asia at policy and practice levels. DN has member organizations in the South Asian region and a proven track record of managing and coordinating South Asia regional-level research, pilot projects, advocacy initiatives, and policy dialogues at the regional level. The objective of the network is to strengthen national and regional organizations in South Asia and experts/individuals interested in disaster risk reduction to carry out effective disaster risk reduction and development activities, as well as to shape the regional and global discussion on DRR through research, information sharing, advocacy, campaigns, and peer learning.
The Project: Strengthening Inclusive Disaster Risk Governance for Climate Resilience in Asia’ (SIDRRA) project is a 4-year consortium project, financially supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) as the project lead in collaboration with Duryog Nivaran and Asian Disaster Reduction and Response Network (ADRRN). In this project, DN will focus on increasing the adaptability and resilience of communities at risk of climate change and disasters across Asia, and South Asia in particular, by working towards three mutually reinforcing outcomes over the life of the project:
Strengthen the Duryog Nivaran network to become an effective advocate to influence duty bearers at the regional and national levels to fulfill commitments on inclusive climate change and DRR actions.
Address the power imbalances that exacerbate climate and disaster risks facing particularly vulnerable populations with intersecting needs, particularly women and girls and excluded populations.
Strengthen sustainable local-level actions through sub grant projects to mitigate the effects of climate change and to strengthen risk governance in 5 countries in South Asia.
Job Purpose: The Project Officer will support the overall implementation of the SIDRRA project, specifically in the implementation of sub grant projects ensuring effective planning, coordination, communication, and monitoring of activities.
Functions/Duties and Responsibilities
Project Implementation and Coordination
- Assist the Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and implementing sub-grantee projects under the SIDDRA project and ensure compliance and timely delivery in 5 South Asian countries.
- Facilitate communication and coordination between project partners, sub-grantees, stakeholders, and DN network members.
- Execution of assigned direct project activities in an effective and timely manner within the allocated budget.
Capacity Building and Training
- Assist in organizing and conducting capacity-building initiatives for project sub-grantees and stakeholders.
- Support in the development of training materials on disaster risk reduction and climate resilience.
Communication and Documentation
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including meeting minutes, progress reports, and other relevant documents to the information management system of the project.
- Support in the development of communication materials to highlight project achievements and lessons learned.
- Develop periodic updates and stories to ensure timely dissemination of project information in the DN’s website, social media pages and other communication channels.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Support in the development and implementation of monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL) plan of the project.
- Collect, analyze, and report project data to assess progress and impact.
- Assist in the preparation of regular project reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Administrative and Financial Support
- Assist in the preparation of project budgets and financial reports.
- Ensure compliance with DN’s financial and administrative procedures and support in the development of such procedures.
- Support in organizing project events, project activities, including workshops, meetings, field visits and donor visits.
Contribution to DN Business Development
- Support in identifying and pursuing fundraising opportunities for the DN’s Business Development priorities.
- Contribute to the development of project proposals and concept notes for fundraising initiatives.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Development Studies, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in project implementation with international development projects, preferably on disaster risk reduction or climate resilience.
Nationality: Nationals of Bangladesh, India, Nepal or Pakistan
Key Skills:
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in project management tools and techniques.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multicultural team.
- Fluency in English is required; knowledge of at least one additional South Asian language is an asset.
