Transcultural Psychosocial Organization Nepal (TPO Nepal) is one of Nepal’s leading psychosocial organizations. It was established in 2005 to promote psychosocial well-being and mental health of people in conflict-affected and other vulnerable communities through the development of sustainable, culturally-appropriate, and community-based psychosocial support systems.

Project information:

“Sensing Technology to Personalize Adolescent Maternal Depression Treatment in Low Resource Settings (StandStrong) – III” is a pilot randomized control trial study currently being implemented in Pokhara, Kaski that aims to explore the effectiveness of non-specialist delivered psychological interventions by using passive sensing technology with mothers and their babies. The project is implementing by TPO Nepal in collaboration with Center for Global Mental Health Equity, George Washington University (GWU) and funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).
TPO Nepal seeks competent, committed and result oriented candidates for the following positions:

Research Assistant

Job station: Kaski (Pokhara)
Job duration: 1 year with possibility of extension
Number of opening: 4 (four)
Start date: February 2024

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct research activities including recruitment of study participants, and meetings with participants and family members.
  • Visit study participants weekly to collect data on their well-being through quantitative measures using a tab/ODK
  • Collect qualitative data through interviews and focus group discussions.
  • Ensure high-quality qualitative and quantitative data collection.
  • Coordinate with government-employed Female community health volunteers (FCHV), health workers, and community counselors to ensure effective counseling services to study participants.
  • Work closely with the research coordinator and clinical supervisors to assure that the research activities run as planned.
  • Provide regular and timely updates to the research coordinator and IT officer on technological and project-specific challenges.
  • Contribute to an app development process informed by participant feedback
  • Contribute to paper publications and dissemination

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, psychology, population health, anthropology, epidemiology, global health, or related field.
  • At least one year of research experience in the community setting.
  •  Technologically adept. Experience working with mobile health, digital technology, or electronic health data collection or interventions is preferred.
  • Willing to work in a multicultural environment.
  •  Strong coordination skills.
  • Flexible to work beyond office hours when required.
  •  Willingness to travel to remote areas in Kaski district.
  • Good command of both written and spoken English and Nepali languages.
  •  Having a valid license and being able to travel by driving a scooter or motorbike.
  •  Knowledge and previous work experience in mental health is preferred.
