PHASE Nepal is a non-governmental, organization established in 2006 with a vision to build a self-empowered and self-sustained society where all kinds of discrimination are absent. PHASE Nepal’s health, education, livelihoods, research and strengthening the concept of independent living projects are currently running across various rural communities in Nepal. PHASE Nepal has been implementing a component of the Accountability and Responsiveness in Informal Settlements for Equity (ARISE) project with the funding of Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM). The title of the Nepal based research is “Assessing the status of living conditions and accountability status of people living in informal settlements in Nepal: A mixed method implementation study”.
The aim of this study is to assess the living condition, mental health status and access to services of people living in informal settlements in Kathmandu and Pokhara, Nepal, strengthen relationships between relevant stakeholders, and improve accountability towards them. PHASE Nepal is currently looking for suitable candidates for the following position:
Position: Research Coordinator
Duration: Currently it is for 6 months starting from January 2024, but we are open to negotiate for a longer-term core position to a suitable candidate to coordinate PHASE Nepal’s research work as a regular staff.
Duty Station: It is a Bhaktapur (New Thimi) based position with occasional field visits to project / research sites.
DELIVERABLE GOALS: MAIN TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide overall support in coordinating, planning, organizing, and conducting research.
- Monitoring and supervision of the project activities in coordination with project members.
- Support in scientific literature search, critical review and produce a state-of-art knowledge.
- Develop and participate actively in the development of field research plans.
- Support in the development of qualitative and quantitative research instruments, including structured survey, semi-structured interviews, and focus group discussion for primary data collection.
- Help explore, identify, and collect data from the secondary sources.
- Provide training support to interviewers, enumerators, facilitators, and note takers, employed for qualitative and quantitative data collection.
- Transcribe and translate qualitative data to prepare for analysis.
- Clean, consolidate and prepare the dataset for quantitative data analysis and help in coding for qualitative data.
- Discuss findings with other personnel to evaluate validity of the findings.
- Prepare periodic reports to summarize project progress and help write up for publication, presentation, or for the use in further applied or theoretical research activities.
- Lead the data collection team to conduct KII, produce Participatory Videos and Survey.
- Ensure research ethics maintained throughout the research period.
- Coordinate with different department (HR, Logistic, finance as and when needed for project implementation).
- Other responsibilities shall be assigned as per the requirement for this position.
JOB REQUIREMENTS/ REQUIRED PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:
- At least MPH or equivalent degree in any health-related discipline preferably with specialization in Global / Public Health, Research Methodology, Disability, Physiotherapy, Nursing etc (Essential).
- Minimum 2 years of experience in research, mainly in conducting KIIs, FGD and Survey (Essential).
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of data collection methods like in-depth interviews, survey designs, and focus group discussions (Essential).
- Strong analytical skills and experience in conducting literature reviews (Essential).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English (Essential).
- Systematic, well organized, dependable and with high degree of initiative and sense of responsibility (Essential).
- Knowledge of Kobo Toolbox or similar data collection software is an advantage (Desirable).
- Good understanding of statistical data analysis packages – SPSS, STATA (Desirable).
- Experience in scientific writing and publication of articles in the journals (Desirable).
Insurance Benefits:
PHASE Nepal will provide accidental insurance of NRs. 2,000,000/- for employee member and medical insurance of NRs. 2,25,000/- that covers the employee and his/her up to 2 dependent family members.
