Resident Engineer
Openings: One (1)
Job Station: Upper Sankhuwa, Sankhuwasabha
Academic Qualification and Other Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 7 years of experience in the hydropower construction, OR
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with at least 10 years of relevant experience in the hydropower construction, including hands-on involvement in the site-based completion of at least one hydropower project (ideally 20 MW or above), particularly with tunnel construction including civil works, electro-mechanical installations, and hydro-mechanical systems.
- Experience in conduction of the testing and commissioning of hydropower projects.
- Proven experience as a Resident Engineer or Team Leader under FIDIC contracts.
- Familiarity with the regulatory and environmental frameworks governing hydropower projects in Nepal is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the Engineer’s representative on-site, ensuring the project is executed in strict accordance with the design specifications, contractual agreements, safety regulations, and quality standards.
- Provide leadership to the multidisciplinary team, ensuring effective coordination among contractors, consultants, and project stakeholders.
- Oversee the performance of contractors to ensure full compliance with the contractual terms and conditions.
- Review, verify, and issue construction drawings, site instructions, and other project-related documentation as required.
- Coordinate with the design team and head office on the timely delivery of design documents, ensuring alignment with the project’s actual progress.
- Identify and resolve construction challenges, including resource allocation and unforeseen site conditions, utilizing problem-solving skills.
- Review, analyze and advise for pragmatic construction program to expedite construction progress
- Analyze critical paths activities and suggest for deployment of necessary measures to overcome the associated challenges to the Contractor
- Demonstrate conflict resolution and negotiation skills while interacting with contractors, subcontractors, and local authorities.
- Ensure the health, safety, and security of all personnel, structures, and equipment on-site, adhering to rigorous safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain comprehensive records of daily activities, meetings, and progress reports, ensuring transparency and clear communication with all stakeholders.
- Proficiently use project management software (e.g., MS Project, PRIMAVERA), along with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, and other relevant tools. Knowledge of hydraulic modelling and structural analysis software will be considered an advantage.
Skills & Competencies
- Interpersonal skills with the ability to manage diverse teams and engage with local and international stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Nepali
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities, with experience in guiding multidisciplinary teams in high-pressure environments.
- In-depth knowledge of hydropower project execution, including civil, mechanical, and electrical systems.
- Thorough understanding of FIDIC contracts, safety protocols, and quality management.
- Ability to address technical challenges and provide pragmatic solutions to complex project issues.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Experience with regulatory compliance in environmental and safety standards.
