Child Safeguarding Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post holder may require having a regular contact with or access to children or young people because the position holder works in the implementation of the country programme and are visiting programme frequently.

The Senior Coordinator, Child Protection will lead the implementation, coordination, monitoring, and technical oversight of child protection interventions within the flood response programs. The position will ensure that child protection risks are identified, monitored, and addressed through quality programming, coordination with relevant stakeholders, and integration across the wider humanitarian response. The role will carry out child protection analysis, information management, and reporting while ensuring adherence to safeguarding, child rights, and humanitarian standards.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Coordinate with relevant Protection Cluster and child protection working group, sub-cluster mechanisms, inter-agency coordination platforms, government counterparts, and local authorities on prevention, mitigation and responding to child protection issues related to the flood response.
  • Represent the organization in coordination meetings related to child protection and contribute to joint assessments, planning, and response initiatives in close consultation with the CP/CRG Advisor and Field Operations Lead.
  • Ensure child protection concerns and actions are regularly communicated to response leadership, CP/CRG Advisor and relevant stakeholders.
  • Collect, analyze, and regularly update data on the child protection situation and risks affecting children in flood-affected communities.
  • Develop child rights situation briefs, including analysis of emerging protection risks, humanitarian trends, service gaps, and priority concerns.
  • Monitor and analyze trends related to violence against children, gender-based violence, and other protection risks, ensuring appropriate referral and escalation in accordance with established service mapping and referral protocols in close consultation with the Field Operations Lead and the CP/CRG Advisor.
  • Support and ensure the quality implementation of child protection initiatives including establishment and quality functioning of Child-Friendly Spaces, listening posts, helpdesks, and capacity sharing with the CFS facilitators, volunteers, social workers / case workers etc.
  • Support the child rights and protection structures at the local government level in coordination with the national authorities for case assessment, family tracing and reunification, interim care and alternative care arrangements.
  • In close coordination with the Psychosocial Counsellor and MHPSS service providers, ensure children and their families receive psychological first aid, psychosocial counseling and specialized MHPSS services.
  • Ensure child protection is integrated across the wider humanitarian response, including education, health, WASH, and shelter/settlement, and other sectoral interventions.
  • Capacity strengthening and providing technical support to the local partners and field teams on child protection in emergencies.
  • Work closely with the Child Protection and Child Rights Governance Technical Advisor on child protection issues and concerns.
  • Ensure field information is collected using approved tools, formats, and reporting templates.
  • Verify information from multiple sources before sharing with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure informed consent has been obtained and documented prior to collecting or sharing personal information, images, or testimonials of children
  • Ensure sensitive information is handled appropriately and in accordance with data protection requirements and SCI’s principles
  • Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATION:

  • A minimum of 4 years’ (3 years for GSI ) experience in child protection programming
  • or related areas with the master’s degree in social science or relevant areas or 6 years ( 4 years for GSI group) of experience in child protection programming with bachelor’s degree in social science or relevant areas

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Demonstrated experience in child protection preferably in emergencies, case management, community-based child protection, or related technical areas.
  • Experience coordinating with government authorities, humanitarian coordination mechanisms, and partner organizations.
  • Strong experience in assessments, analysis, reporting, and information management.
  • Knowledge of international child protection frameworks, safeguarding standards, and humanitarian principles.
  • Ability to travel extensively to flood-affected and remote locations.
  • Fluency in English and Nepali, both written and spoken
  • Ability to collect and verify information under tight deadlines.
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of SCI in particular, a good understanding of the SCI mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support
  • Ability to establish good working relationships and positively contribute to a team
  • Ability to work in a stressful and changing environment with limited resources
