Strategic Communications Expert
The Opportunity
The Strategic Communications Expert will report directly to the Team Leader of PMEL and work closely with the rest of the PMEL team, including the Deputy Team Leader and Senior Data Specialist.
Core Responsibilities
1.Visualization and Storytelling (40%)
- Support the team in the creation of communication products.
- Collaborate with team members to capture and articulate key learnings and polish key messages emerging from different learning pieces.
- Lead the process of developing creative and visually compelling content to communicate complex messages, integrating impactful storytelling through infographics, presentations, briefs and other visual elements.
- Lead on PMEL branding to ensure consistency in messaging and branding across all PMEL products.
- Reflect strong understanding of the audience in all knowledge products.
2. Content Creation and Strategic Messaging (30%)
- Develop a communication strategy for PMEL
- Collaborate with leadership to promote positive internal communications that keep all staff members up-to-date and promote an integrated and collaborative environment
- Identify efficient means of communication with stakeholders and other key partners with the aim to build rapport and raise awareness
- Synthetize dense materials into user-friendly briefs and presentations
- Organise external learning-focused events
- Support the team in synthesizing learning and stories crafting them into compelling, high-quality strategic messages.
- Work closely with the team on key learning products highlighting PMEL’s thought leadership, including the creation of blogs, podcasts etc.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather relevant information
- Support team in contextual research to place PMEL work in the bigger picture.
3. Learning and Knowledge Management (30%)
- Lead the process of developing a Knowledge Management Plan for PMEL
- Update and manage a knowledge repository of PMEL’s knowledge and communications products
- Implement metadata tagging to enhance searchability and retrieval of information
- Support the team in synthesizing insights and lessons from various learning products, including briefs, quarterly reports, to enhance PMEL’s own learning and inform strategic communication efforts.
- Offer customized support to the Senior Data Specialist to ensure continuous update and uptake of Data Visualization System (DVS)
What We Value
- Master’s degree in Communications, International Development or relevant field
- Proven expertise, with a minimum of 5-7 years’ professional experience in strategic communications, including visualization and storytelling.
- End-to-end experience of designing and producing high quality presentations, infographics, briefs and reports as required by the programme team and BEK when necessary.
- Knowledge of international development programmes; FCDO experience preferred.
- Experience using relevant communication tools, softwares, and media such as In-design, advanced powerpoint visualization, Canva, etc.
- Sound knowledge of concepts of graphics designing
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with ability to quality check complex data sets
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Resourceful self-starter and problem-solver who can work independently as well as collaboratively in a team

- Communication strategy for PMEL
- Final communication products highlighting key strategic messages
- PMEL Monthly Newsletters
- A series of digital creation, including but not limited to, podcast episodes featuring interviews and discussions.
- A comprehensive and organized Sharepoint folder(s) for all PMEL learning products
