Mission and objectives
The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (UN RCO) in Nepal works under the strategic guidance of the UN Resident Coordinator (RC) and supports the UN Country Team (UNCT) in the advancement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The UN RCO fulfills the following five key functions in support of the responsibilities of the RC and the UNCT including:
- Strategic planning;
- Development economics;
- Partnerships and development finance;
- Data and results management and reporting; and
- Research, communications and advocacy.
The UN RCO and UNCT work closely with the Government of Nepal and other Development Partners to support Nepal in achieving Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. The UN RCO team supports the RC and UNCT in ensuring a more coordinated and coherent approach across the work of the UN and is composed of experts in development and humanitarian coordination, information management, human rights, gender equality, communications and communications.
Context
Project Description: Sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) and sexual harassment (SH) violate universally recognized international legal norms and standards and have always been unacceptable behaviors and prohibited conducts for United Nations (UN) staff and related personnel. SEA is also acknowledged to be rooted in unequal power relations, abuse of power, and gender bias.
UN’s zero-tolerance policy envisions international humanitarian and development assistance free of any form of exploitation, abuse, and harassment, that adequately prevents such conduct and, if it occurs, takes timely appropriate corrective action, while offering support to those targeted by such conduct. The UN looks at driving a cultural transformation across the whole UN system and takes as an approach the strengthening of (a) collaboration and coordination among UN entities to ensure system-wide efforts, and of (b) partnership with the humanitarian sectors, such as with the Inter-agency Standing Committee, the interagency mechanism for the coordination of humanitarian assistance, bringing together United Nations and non-United Nations humanitarian partners.
In Nepal, the UN Country Team has taken concerted efforts to establish PSEA mechanisms and increase the awareness and understanding of all personnel and partners on PSEA. An interagency PSEA Working Group (co-chaired by UN Women and UN RCO) and all agencies have PSEA Focal Points responsible for taking forward joint commitments on PSEA.
Considering the preparedness and response efforts in the development setting, the RCO in collaboration with the Working Group, acknowledges the necessity to enhance the awareness of the PSEA through communication materials for PSEA, tailoring them to the specific nuances of the development setting.
To do so, the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Nepal is seeking the support of Online Volunteers to develop awareness materials, especially in video format.
