Sustainable Forest Management Specialist

Duty station: Surkhet and Kathmandu

The Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) Specialist is responsible to coordinate sustainable forest management activities in the project districts. S/he will work closely with ANSAB management team and the project team for the effective implementation of project/s.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to develop ideas, concepts and proposals in the forestry and climate change sector;
  • Plan and implement the sustainable forest management (SFM) activities in project districts;
  • Build capacity of project staff, partners and local resource persons on SFM;
  • Coordinate with provincial and district level line agencies to increase the effectiveness of the projects;
  • Provide technical backstopping to the field staff to organize different trainings, surveys, assessments, workshops;
  • Coordinate with provincial and district stakeholders in. NTFP resource inventory throughout the Nepal Himalayas;
  • Support field staff in preparing different plans, and Fair wild certification- record keeping, documentation, traceability system and establishing certification plots;
  • Support district team and FECOFUN district chapters to implement management plans;
  • Participate in the meetings, workshops, seminars as directed by the ANSAB management team.

Qualification and skills:

  • Minimum M.Sc. in Forestry or related field with at least five years of experience working in the SFM;
  • Extensive knowledge on community forestry, forest mensuration, resource inventory, NTFPs and sustainability standards & certification;
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills in English and Nepali;
  • Proven analytical skills with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams;
  • Good computer skills including MS office package.
  • Good knowledge on GIS.
