Transcultural Psychosocial Organization Nepal (TPO Nepal) is one of Nepal’s leading organizations in the psychosocial and mental health field. It was established in 2005 with the aim of promoting psychosocial well-being and mental health of people in conflict affected and other vulnerable communities through the development of sustainable, culturally-appropriate, and community-based psychosocial support systems.
Currently, the organization is implementing a research study funded by the Wellcome Trust UK which aims to develop and pilot-test the feasibility and acceptability of a community based intervention to improve help-seeking for mental health care. TPO Nepal is looking for a high caliber candidate with a diverse set of knowledge and skills to fill a vacancy in its research department.
Position: Research Officer
Location: Ramailo, Morang
Duration: 6 months (possible extension for 6 months)
Starting date: Immediately
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee the overall implementation of the research, which involves regular field visits to support junior researchers and collect data.
- Supervise research activities including recruitment of study participants, and meetings with participants and their family members.
- Collect data on the implementation process, attendance, barriers, and facilitators of the implementation.
- Collect data on the supervision of the facilitators and intervention fidelity.
- Conduct qualitative interviews and focus group discussions with the participants who receive community-based interventions.
- Be involved in qualitative and quantitative data management and analysis using various software, including STATA/SPSS and NVivo.
- Participate in academic article/journal writing and publication.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Master’s degree in Public Health, Anthropology, Global Health, Psychology, or other related fields.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in both quantitative and qualitative research. Candidates with experience in data analysis tools such as NVIVO and SPSS/STATA will be preferred.
Attitude: Self-motivated, learning-driven, quick learner, and able to take up tasks independently.
Experience:
- Experience in different qualitative and quantitative research techniques and methodologies.
- Experience in designing, implementing, and conducting field research and managing a team.
- Preference will be given to those who have prior experience in mental health research.
- Experience in writing manuscripts for publication in international journals.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Nepali are required.
- Experience using qualitative and quantitative research approaches.
- Involvement in randomized controlled trials.
- Experience writing manuscripts for publication in international journals.
