Brief Position Description: Founded in 1991, Women’s Rehabilitation Centre (WOREC) is a national level leading NGO working in Nepal from local to global level with feminist values to support and bridge collective actions for women rights and feminist movement. Together with collaborators from a diverse range of feminist human rights movements and networks, WOREC works to advance the rights of women in diversity. WOREC advocates for affirmative structural and social changes influencing national and international actors. WOREC works for the protection and promotion of women’s human rights and social justice with the campaigns against violence against women, and women’s economic, social and cultural rights. WOREC is active nation-wide by its presence with central office in Lalitpur, provincial and district offices in 6 provinces. WOREC is currently looking for a dynamic and competent candidate to fulfill the position of Executive Director at Central Office based in Balkumari, Lalitpur. The position reports to Executive Board and is responsible for overall execution ensuring organizational vision, mission, goals and objectives.
Job Description:
- Executive Director, in the capacity of the Executive Head of the Organization, reports directly to the Executive Committee, led by the Chairperson and Advisors appointed by the Executive Body (the Board).
- Under the direction and guidance of the Executive Committee, the Executive Director will be responsible for the planning, organizing, staffing, motivating, directing, and management of the organization.
- Executive Director leads the organization and represents the organization amongst the partners at different levels, stakeholders, government bodies, program supporting regional, international, bilateral and multilateral agencies, funding partners etc.
- Lead the management committee at Central level and facilitate decision making representing Central Management Committee and also when the decision of the Executive Committee needs to be seeked.
- Represent the organization in national and international forums and networks.
- As the position reports directly to the Executive Committee, take pertinent issues related to management and program implementation to the Executive Committee and similarly incorporate suggestions from the Executive Committee to the managerial decision making process and ensure smooth running of the organization.
- Take team leadership and oversees all the program and management of the organization.
- Take regular updates from Program Operation Manager/Director regarding all the ongoing programs and activities and District Coordinators and Thematic Head regarding all the administrative and staff related issues in the organization and guide them through in managing both the program and the operations smoothly.
- Ensure that all themes and programs of the organization are well connected with the organization’s vision, mission, goals and objectives and that the issues that come from the community are well linked with programs and themes led by the organization and are well embedded in the organizations advocacy and awareness programs and in policy interventions at national, regional and international levels.
- Provide overall leadership and guidance to the organization, design periodic review and planning and guide in implementation of planned activities and monitor outcomes and results of individual projects and the organization as a whole.
- Responsible to directly engage with or assign staffs to correspond with funding partners, communication regarding major decisions.
- Responsible for fund raising and identification of potential funding partners.
- Take active role in providing guidance to the organization, motivating employees and inspiring them to remain optimistic even during challenging time.
- Take regular update regarding human resource management and ensure that the Operations Department in staff development, capacity enhancement and retention.
- Engage and support with monitoring and evaluation unit, take periodic update, provide required support to the unit for smooth functioning of the projects/programs/campaigns.
- Ensure that the organization follows clearly set ethical standards and follow and promote the policies approved by organization’s political stand. Engage constantly with the funding partners and ensure responsible use of funds and ensure effective and timely communication with the funding partner and guide all concerned staffs and units to do the same.
- Encourage good performance, values and organization culture by constantly guiding the staff though participation in regular staff meetings, periodic planning and review meetings and engaging in the issues timely and appropriately.
- Set high standards and live by these standards, constantly mentor the entire staff and help them with critical decision making. Through effective leadership, help in creating next generation of leaders within the organization.
- Communicate top level learning / analysis reports and monitoring data to ensure that management is able to make informed decisions on a timely basis to scale up and face operational challenges.
- Provide direct leadership to the thematic leads, Knowledge and Communication Unit, demand periodic updates of fundraising, communication, and publication and documentation functions.
- Advocating and embracing change as per the present situation, and ensuring that activities implemented are timely, of good quality and are relevant to the vision and mission of the organization.

Desired Qualifications for the Position:
Qualifications and Experience: Master’s or M. Phil. Or PhD in Social Sciences, Management, Economics, Rural Development or related field with good understanding of development sector, rights-based approach, human rights concepts and mechanisms and 7 years working experience in program management and at least three years working experience in leadership position.
Core Competencies for the Position:
- Leadership and management skill, ability to manage more than 150 staffs spread over different parts of country and several global networks, to work in a multi-cultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization.
- Good understanding on rights-based approach and human rights concepts and mechanisms and ability to advocate to protect and promote women’s rights and social justice.
- Leadership skill to coordinate and facilitate dialogue and meeting with different level stakeholders.
- Excellent writing and communication skill in both Nepali and English.
- Can work in stressful situations, for long hours and during off days, when need arises
- Must be sensitive towards gender and diversity
