Key Responsibilities

1. Sample Collection & Phlebotomy Setup

  • Set up phlebotomy equipment and administrative stations within the laboratory for patient sample collection. Ensure all necessary tools and materials are organized and prepared for efficient sample collection.

2. Patient Interaction & Comfort

  • Greet patients warmly, explain the procedure, and ensure they are comfortable throughout the sample collection process. Provide a calm and professional environment to reduce anxiety or discomfort during phlebotomy or other sample collection procedures.

3. Sample Collection, Storage & Transport

  • Perform the accurate and proper collection of specimens such as blood, urine, and tissue samples, following standard protocols to ensure safety and integrity. Properly label, store, and prepare samples for transportation, ensuring that they are transported under appropriate conditions (e.g., temperature control) to avoid contamination or degradation.

4. Coordination with Lab Personnel, Couriers, and Reception Staff

  • Coordinate with laboratory personnel, couriers, and reception staff to ensure efficient processing and timely delivery of specimens. Facilitate smooth communication between different departments to ensure accurate and timely handling of all samples.

5. Documentation & Record Keeping

  • Ensure that all documentation is completed accurately, including labeling, sample tracking forms, and patient information. Maintain records of all samples collected, transported, and received to ensure compliance with laboratory policies and regulatory requirements.

6. Logbook Maintenance

  • Maintain detailed logbooks to record daily activities such as sample collections, patient interactions, equipment usage, and any issues encountered during the day. Ensure that all logbooks are kept up to date and accessible for auditing purposes.

7. Laboratory Support

  • Assist laboratory technicians and technologists with routine tasks, including sample preparation, reagent preparation, and basic equipment maintenance. Help with the setup and cleaning of laboratory workstations to maintain a clean and organized work environment.

8. Equipment Maintenance & Calibration

  • Assist in the routine maintenance and calibration of phlebotomy and laboratory equipment, ensuring they are in proper working order. Report any equipment malfunctions or issues to the laboratory supervisor for immediate attention.

9. Quality Control & Assurance

  • Follow quality control procedures to ensure that all specimens meet laboratory standards for testing. Identify and report any discrepancies or issues with samples to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.

10. Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), proper waste disposal, and biohazard handling procedures. Ensure compliance with all safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment for both staff and patients.

11. Inventory Management

  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels for sample collection materials, phlebotomy equipment, and other supplies. Ensure that all necessary items are available for daily operations and report any shortages or supply issues to the lab supervisor.

12. Assist in Specimen Transport

  • Occasionally assist with the safe transport of specimens to other laboratory facilities or external testing centers, ensuring all samples are delivered securely and within the required time frame.
