Botany Teacher – 1 Position

To deliver high-quality Botany education that promotes conceptual understanding, critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and academic excellence among students. The Botany Teacher is responsible for effective classroom instruction, student assessment, academic counselling, research and publication activities, academic administration, and active participation in co-curricular and institutional development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Effective Teaching & Lesson Delivery

  • Prepare annual, term-wise, unit-wise, and daily micro-lesson plans in alignment with the prescribed curriculum and academic calendar.
  • Develop and utilize PowerPoint presentations, audiovisual resources, simulations, laboratory demonstrations and other instructional materials to enhance learning. ? Conduct classes as scheduled and ensure effective classroom management.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, lesson progress, and teaching activities.
  • Create a learner-centered classroom environment that encourages participation, inquiry, and critical thinking.
  • Integrate practical applications and real-world examples into Botany instruction.
  • Monitor student attendance and take appropriate initiatives to maintain satisfactory class participation.

2. Student Assessment & Academic Support

  • Design and administer assignments, quizzes, practical assessments, projects, and examinations.
  • Evaluate answer sheets, assignments, and homework within the stipulated timeline.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and assessment outcomes.
  • Identify academically struggling students and provide remedial support, mentoring, and academic counselling.
  • Conduct individual student progress discussions and provide constructive feedback.
  • Support students in career exploration and higher education opportunities related to science and engineering disciplines.
  • Coordinate with parents and academic leadership regarding student performance when necessary.

3. Research, Publication & Knowledge Contribution

  • Engage in academic research and scholarly activities related to Botany and education.
  • Publish research papers in recognized journals, conference proceedings, or academic platforms.
  • Contribute articles, book chapters, educational content, or other scholarly publications.
  • Participate in research proposal development and funding initiatives.
  • Maintain proper documentation and compliance in research-related activities.
  • Encourage research culture and scientific inquiry among students.

4. Academic Administration & Coordination

  • Contribute to academic planning, curriculum implementation, and calendar development.
  • Participate actively in faculty meetings, departmental meetings, workshops, and institutional committees.
  • Coordinate with the library and other departments to enhance teaching-learning resources.
  • Upload reading materials, assignments, presentations, and academic resources through the college learning management system or official application.
  • Prepare and submit academic reports, result analyses, and other required documentation on time.
  • Report classroom, laboratory, academic, or student-related concerns promptly to concerned authorities.
  • Support examination management, invigilation, moderation, and result preparation processes.

5. Co-curricular, Outreach & Extension Activities

  • Plan and participate in science exhibitions, project presentations, competitions, educational tours, and other co-curricular activities.
  • Organize or support outreach, extension, and community engagement programmes involving students.
  • Mentor students in science clubs, innovation projects, and academic competitions.
  • Undertake additional academic, administrative, or managerial responsibilities assigned by the institution.
  • Contribute to institutional branding and promotion through academic and outreach initiatives.

6. Professional Conduct & Role Modelling

  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct at all times.
  • Maintain punctuality, discipline, and regular attendance.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Adhere to institutional policies, rules, and academic standards.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students through professional behaviour and personal conduct.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and capacity-building activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of institutional and student information.

Qualification & Experience

  • Master’s Degree (M.Sc.) in Botany from a recognized institution. M.Phil. or Ph.D. in Botany or a related field will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years of teaching experience at the Higher Secondary (+2) or Undergraduate level.
  • Experience in laboratory-based instruction, plant research, field studies, herbarium work, scientific publication, and curriculum development will be an added advantage.
  • Strong subject knowledge in areas such as Plant Physiology, Taxonomy, Genetics, Ecology, Cell Biology, Biotechnology, and related disciplines.
  • Excellent communication, classroom management, and student mentoring skills.
