JOB TITLE: Media & Communications Coordinator
TEAM/PROGRAMME: Program Development, Quality and Influence (PDQI)

Child Safeguarding Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post holder may require having a regular contact with or access to children or young people because the position holder works in the implementation of the country programme and are visiting programme frequently.

The Media and Communications Coordinator will lead the development and implementation of the humanitarian media and communications strategy for the flood response under the guidance of the PDQI Director. The role will ensure consistent, timely, and accurate communications that support humanitarian objectives, enhance stakeholder engagement, and protect the dignity and rights of affected communities. The position will serve as the focal point for media engagement, external communications, and content development, while maintaining close coordination with field teams and response leadership.
The position will ensure that all information and communications products adhere to organizational safeguarding, consent, dignity, and media standards.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Develop and implement the humanitarian media and communications plan, aligned with the overall flood response strategy and organizational priorities.
- Identify strategic communications opportunities that increase visibility of response efforts, humanitarian needs, and impact.
- Monitor emerging issues, risks, and reputational concerns and propose appropriate communications responses.
- Coordinate and maintain a tracker of media and journalist visits, interviews, media requests, and other external engagement activities
- Support preparation and coordination of media visits to response locations, ensuring adherence to organizational policies and procedures.
- Prepare media briefs, interview notes, talking points, and background information for organizational spokespersons.
- Monitor media coverage related to the flood response and provide regular updates to management.
- Ensure field information is collected using approved tools, formats, and reporting templates.
- Verify information from multiple sources before sharing with internal and external stakeholders.
- Work closely with the Information & Communications Coordinator in the field to identify stories, response data, photos, videos, testimonials, and other content from the field.
- Ensure all communications materials, photos, videos, interviews, and stories meet organizational safeguarding, consent, dignity, and media standards.
- Verify that informed consent has been obtained and documented prior to collecting or sharing personal information, images, or testimonials.
- Develop, refresh, and finalize FAQs, key messages, talking points, briefing materials, media statements, and other communications products.
- Ensure sensitive information is handled appropriately and in accordance with data protection requirements and SCI’s communications principles
- Ensure adherence to SCI’s branding and visibility standards for all materials
- Maintain a repository of communication products, media coverage, photographs, videos, stories, and communication assets.
- Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATION:
- A minimum of 3 years’ (2 years for GSI ) experience in communications, humanitarian response, information management, or related areas with the Master degree in communications/journalism/social science or relevant areas or 6 years ( 4 years for GSI group) of experience in communications, humanitarian response, information management, or related areas with bachelor’s degree in communications/journalism/social science or relevant areas
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting field data during humanitarian or disaster response operations.
- Proven experience developing communication content, including stories, photographs, videos, and situation reports. Strong reporting, facilitation, and communication skills.
- Ability to travel extensively to flood-affected and remote locations.
- Fluency in English and Nepali, both written and spoken
- Ability to collect and verify information under tight deadlines.
- Commitment to the aims and principles of SCI in particular, a good understanding of the SCI mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support
- Ability to establish good working relationships and positively contribute to a team
- Ability to work in a stressful and changing environment with limited resources
