Job Description:
Key Responsibilities:
1. Internal Inventory Management
Oversee and manage the inventory of laboratory supplies, reagents, and equipment, ensuring stock levels are maintained and efficiently utilized to prevent shortages of overstocking.
2. Instrument and Reagent Optimization
Ensure optimal utilization of laboratory instruments and reagents to maximize efficiency and minimize waste, while maintaining the accuracy and quality of test results.
3. NABL (ISO 15189:2022) Compliance
Conduct and maintain laboratory practices in strict adherence to NABL (ISO 15189:2022) standards, ensuring that all processes, documentation, and operations meet accreditation requirements.
4.Quality Control and Assurance
Implement and monitor quality control procedures, including performing daily internal control runs and analyzing Levey-Jennings (LJ) curves. Take corrective actions when needed and document all steps to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
5. Turnaround Time (TAT) Management
Monitor and manage the turnaround time (TAT) for all laboratory services, ensuring timely processing, analysis, and reporting of test results to maintain operational efficiency.
6. Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Conduct daily maintenance of laboratory instruments, perform necessary repairs, and ensure timely validation to prevent malfunctions. Document maintenance activities and address issues promptly.
7. Data Management and Documentation
Accurately record and manage test results, ensuring that comprehensive and organized documentation is maintained in line with regulatory and organizational standards, including recording re-runs and corrective actions taken.
8. Training and Mentorship
Provide training and guidance to junior staff and interns, ensuring they are well-versed in laboratory procedures, quality control practices, and safety protocols.
9. Staff Management and Duty Rosters
Manage duty rosters for lab staff to ensure adequate coverage, maintain smooth workflow, and promote a positive working environment that fosters teamwork, communication, and high morale.
10. Lab Operations Management
Oversee the overall management of the lab, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
Resolve any issues that arise while promoting continuous improvement and enhancing patient engagement and service utilization.
11. Patient Interaction
When necessary, interact with patients to collect samples, provide clear instructions, ensure their comfort during procedures, and offer post-report counseling as needed.
12. Safety and Regulatory Compliance
Adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for all laboratory personnel while maintaining compliance with health and safety standards.
13. Quality System Improvement
Recommend improvements to the quality management system and testing kits to the Head of Department (HOD) for better performance, accuracy, and patient care.
14. Analytics and Management Reporting
Analyze lab performance data, including test volumes, error rates, and TAT. Prepare regular management reports on key performance indicators (KPIs), financial metrics, and quality improvement initiatives. Use data-driven insights to enhance lab efficiency and decision-making. Report to management on weekly basis.
15. Budget Management
Assist in managing the lab’s budget, ensuring optimal allocation of resources, controlling expenses, and contributing to the financial health of the department.
16. External Vendor and Supplier Management
Liaise with external suppliers and service providers for equipment procurement, reagent supplies, and outsourced services. Negotiate contracts and ensure timely deliveries while maintaining quality and cost-effectiveness.
17. Audit Preparation and Compliance
Coordinate with internal and external auditors to prepare for laboratory audits. Ensure all documentation and processes meet the required standards for NABL and ISO compliance.
18. Strategic Planning and Development
Contribute to the strategic planning of the laboratory by identifying new technologies, methodologies, and services that can enhance lab performance and patient care. Assist in long-term goal setting and resource planning.
