Job Title: Nutrition cum Quality Control Officer
Direct report: Kitchen Manager
Report To: Executive Manager
Food for Life Nepal is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to providing nutritious meals to community schools children of Budhanilkantha and Tokha Municipalities of Nepal. We are currently seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, qualified and passionate individual to join our team as a Nutrition cum Quality Control Officer. This role is integral to ensuring the delivery of high-quality, nutritious meals to over 10,000 children of 26 community school every day.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement nutrition guidelines and standards for balanced meal plans adhering to national and international guidelines.
- Oversee food safety and quality control procedures throughout the food production process, from receiving ingredients to meal delivery.
- Collaborate with kitchen staff and suppliers to ensure compliance with nutritional requirements and hygiene standards.
- Attend and conduct suppliers’ meetings at least once a month to understand their plans and activities and to guide and promote organic food and vegetables.
- Create and maintain a work schedule for all nutrition-related activities and routines and make sure that it is followed.
- Monitor and evaluate the nutritional impact of meals provided to children, and recommend adjustments as needed.
- Coordinate with external agencies and government stakeholders to ensure adherence to quality control measures and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular inspections of kitchens, equipment, and food storage facilities.
- Maintain accurate records of food production, inventory, and quality control measures and nutritional data(s).
- Organize Nutrition Education Programs for students and employees for raising awareness of nutritious food habits.
- Work closely with the school team to integrate nutrition education into the classroom, curriculum, and everyday life of the students and teachers.
- Train and educate kitchen staff on proper food handling, storage, and preparation techniques and hygiene protocols.
- Liaise with suppliers to ensure the quality and timely delivery of ingredients.
- Stay up-to-date on emerging trends, research, food safety regulations and best practices in nutrition and food safety.
- Play a vital role in ensuring the nutritional quality and safety of meals prepared for over 10,000 children in community schools.
- Conduct regular inspections of food preparation areas, storage facilities, and equipment.
- Analyze menus to ensure they meet nutritional requirements for children.
- Train kitchen staff on food safety practices and hygiene standards.
- Stay up-to-date on latest food safety regulations and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Food Science, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in nutrition, food quality control, or related field, preferably in a non-profit or community development organization.
- Excellent understanding of food safety principles and HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) protocols.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Nepali and English languages (written and spoken).
- Passion for nutrition and a commitment to improving the lives of children.
Location: Kathmandu, Nepal (with occasional travel to project/programme sites)
Duration: Full-time position for 1 year (possibilities of extension based on performance)
