Project Coordinator
Department: Education
Reports to: Head of Programmes
Location: Kathmandu (with 40% travel to working districts)
Duration: One-year fixed contract with possible extension. The contract would be provided after satisfactory performance in a three-month probation period.
Work Hours: Full-time; 40 hours per week
ROLE SUMMARY:
The Project Coordinator will oversee the implementation of the UWS UKAM project in Nepal, ensuring the delivery of inclusive and equitable quality education in line with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) and the Nepal School Education Sector Plan 2022/23 – 2031/32.
Deliverables:
The major work responsibility and the deliverables of the Project Coordinator include but are not limited to the following activities. Once engaged, the Project Coordinator is expected to develop a timeline and work plan against each of the following deliverables in consultation with the Head of Programmes.
Roles and responsibilities:
Project Management and Coordination
- Lead the planning, implementation, and monitoring of project activities across UWS Nepal’s working districts.
- Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation.
- Monitor project progress and make adjustments as necessary to ensure successful completion.
- Prepare and present project reports, including updates on progress, challenges, and outcomes.
- Coordinate with government officials, education sector stakeholders, and local communities to improve gender-responsive approaches in education.
- Facilitate regular meetings with community members and local government officials to discuss project progress and address any issues.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation (M&E) plans to assess the effectiveness and impact of education projects.
- Coordinate, collect, and analyze data to measure project outcomes and identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare M&E reports and use findings to inform project planning and decision-making.
- Oversee the delivery and impact of provincial/district-level project events and local-level Inclusive Working Group meetings.
Capacity building and strengthening
- Facilitate & motivate project staff in the district to perform highly in their respective roles and responsibilities.
- Ensure that all district staff understand and can perform their role with full spectrum.
- Contribute to creating an environment and culture of teamwork, open communication, learning, and constructive feedback in all aspects of activities being undertaken
Quality Reporting, documentation, and generating learning
- Produce and submit project progress reports to the Line Manager on time.
- Enhance project teams’ technical capacity to produce periodic project reports of a quality that meets the project outcomes and ensures proper documentation of
- key lessons learned and best practices.
- Ensure timely progress data and information updates are included in the Kobo toolkit and produce quarterly reports based on log frame result indicators.
- Play a lead role in the documentation of best practices, innovation, key learning, and major achievements of the projects for institutional memory and knowledge management of the project.
Others
- Ensure the necessary standards of safeguarding and child protection practices are in place in all UWS schools and the required procedures for monitoring, referral, and intervention.
- Support Line Manager on project planning and budgeting.
- Support field office on the tasks/responsibilities given by the Line Manager on an ad-hoc/need basis as and when required.
- Fulfill other appropriate level responsibilities as defined by the Project.
Qualification and Experience Required:

- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Development Studies, Project Management, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in project coordination or management, preferably in the education sector.
- Strong understanding of the education landscape in Nepal, including challenges and opportunities.
- Strong understanding of gender-responsive education and inclusive teaching practices.
- Proven experience in stakeholder engagement and community mobilization.
- Excellent project management skills, including planning, implementing, and monitoring projects effectively.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in monitoring and evaluation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and project management software.
- Fluency in English and Nepali (both written and spoken)
