Position: Communication Manager
Department: Communication
Reports to: Country Director
Location: Kathmandu (with 20% travel to working districts)
Work Hours: Full-time; 40 hours per week

ROLE SUMMARY:

Communication Manager will lead UWS Nepal’s communication strategy, playing a critical role in shaping the organization’s public image, brand identity, and stakeholder engagement. This role involves developing and executing strategic communication plans, managing a small communications team, and collaborating closely with senior leadership to ensure consistent and impactful messaging across all channels. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a creative approach to storytelling, capable of building strong relationships with the media, donors, and partners, while effectively managing digital platforms and content creation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with UWS Nepal’s mission and growth plans.
  • Oversee the development and execution of internal and external communication policies to enhance UWS Nepal’s brand visibility and influence.
  • Lead the development of an in-country marketing & communications annual plan that incorporates at least two goals from the global marcomms plan.

Content Development and Management:

  • Oversee the creation of high-impact content for digital platforms, including websites, social media, newsletters, press releases, annual reports, and multimedia materials.
  • Ensure consistent and compelling storytelling that captures the impact of UWS Nepal’s work in marginalized communities.
  • Guide the production of case studies, impact stories, and videos that effectively communicate the organization’s achievements.
  • Review and ensure the in-country content calendar is strategically aligned with clear target audiences.
  • Move and manage the content calendar on monday.com to enable cross-team collaboration.

Media and Stakeholder Relations:

  • Cultivate and manage strong relationships with media outlets, journalists, influencers, and key stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary media spokesperson, ensuring accurate and positive coverage of UWS Nepal’s initiatives.
  • Plan and execute press conferences, stakeholder meetings, and high-profile events to increase UWS Nepal’s visibility.

Digital Strategy and Brand Management:

  • Manage all UWS Nepal digital channels, including social media platforms, website, and digital archives.
  • Develop monthly communication plans with clear KPIs to measure the impact of digital outreach.
  • Ensure brand consistency across all communication channels and marketing materials.

Team Management and Capacity Building:

  • Lead, mentor, and support the communications team, fostering a culture of creativity and collaboration.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on effective communication practices and brand alignment.
  • Participate actively in the communications working group, including attendance and contribution to discussions and initiatives.
  • Support and engage in report-writing training through the communications working group, with follow-up support from global comms.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Track and report on the effectiveness of communication efforts, using data to refine strategies and improve outreach.
  • Regularly update senior management and the board on communication milestones and media coverage.
  • Conduct a target audience review to identify who UWS Nepal is currently reaching and who the organization needs to prioritize.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Support the Country Director and senior leadership in strategic planning and organizational growth initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as required to strengthen UWS Nepal’s communications function.

Safeguarding and Child Protection:

  • Uphold UWS Nepal’s commitment to child protection and safeguarding by ensuring all communications reflect the organization’s values and ethical standards.
  • Ensure that all digital and print materials, including images and case studies, protect the rights and dignity of children and vulnerable groups.
