UWS is an international non-profit, non-religious, charity-based organization, that was established in 2008 to provide access to free, quality and inclusive primary education to children in remote and marginalised regions. UWS currently operates in the rural areas of Cambodia, Myanmar, Nepal, and Madagascar, working with over 320 communities and over 80,000 children to date.
ROLE SUMMARY
Posiiton : Communications Trainee
Location : Kathmandu
Duration : 6 months (Full-time)
Working Hours : 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday)
Reports to : Senior Communications Manager
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a hands-on programme designed for someone who wants to build a meaningful career in communications within the international development sector.
The Communications Trainee will work across the full scope of UWS communications function, contributing to content creation, digital media, storytelling and brand visibility. The role involves close day-to-day collaboration with the Senior Communications Manager and provides direct exposure to strategic communications in a professional INGO/NGO environment. This is not a passive observer role; you will be expected to take initiative, contribute ideas, and deliver real work.

You are comfortable working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and are eager to grow both technically and professionally.
You may have written for a blog, managed social media accounts, taken photographs for a cause, or produced content in any form, what matters most is that you have something to show for your interest and a clear sense of where you want to go.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create and contribute content for social media platforms, newsletters, donor communications, and organizational reports.
- Develop human-interest stories, case studies, and field narratives from UWS Nepal’s programme areas.
- Assist in managing UWS Nepal’s digital platforms and track audience engagement and analytics.
- Support the development and execution of communications and social media campaigns.
- Contribute to media relations activities, including press material preparation and event
coordination. - Help maintain the content calendar, digital media archives, and photography and video assets.
- Ensure all communications and marketing materials align with UWS brand standards.
- Support the preparation of reports and presentations related to communications efforts.
- Stay updated on emerging trends, tools, and best practices in communications and digital media.
QUALIFICATION
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (completed or in final year) in a related field
- Atleast a year ofrelevant work or project experience in communications, content creation, digital media, or a related domain, with a demonstrable portfolio of work.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Nepali and English, with the ability to convey information clearly and compellingly.
- Understanding of social media platforms, digital trends, and best practices for audience engagement.
- Ability to create content for multiple platforms including social media, newsletters, and websites.
- Familiarity with design tools such as Canva, Adobe, or similar software.
- Basic understanding of photography and/or videography; proficiency is preferred.
- Proficiency in AI tools and the ability to use them responsibly and creatively in a communications context is a strong advantage.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines independently.
- Flexible and adaptable in a dynamic, mission-driven work environment.
- A genuine interest in the development sector, education, or social impact.
- Strong willingness to learn, grow professionally, and respond positively to feedback.
